Have any details about the shooter or firearms been released?

Not that I have heard. Just that witnesses said he was able to reload multiple times before he fled the church.

We have undercover armed "Greeters" in our church now and have had for a couple of years. One is a retired Police Lieutenant and the other is in the "Security" business.

Anyone have any insight on what they think has changed in people that we are seeing so many people wanting to commit such atrocities?

I think connectivity to issues that make people furious. With the ability to access your point of view and the extremes of that point of view; 24/7 it raises the crazy IMO. Before, people could be furious at say LBJ or Nixon. But they only got increments of news. An article here and there in the Times or the Post.

Now they get it 24/7 in doses of rage on the internet, twitter, et al. There is no time for decompression. People are more an edge than I've ever seen and I think it's because they go online to dine at their favorite causes and find out later that the cause eats them instead.

Just some rambling thoughts RTS.

As to this story; I wouldn't be totally surprised to see this as a family scenario gone bad or something along those lines. I don't know but I will wait and see.

The shooter is dead is all I know about him. At least 20 shots being fired in quick succession is all I've read.

Amanda Mosel's 13-year-old goddaughter was gunned down in the shooting. With tears in her eyes, the 34-year-old stood outside the Southerland Springs Community Building where citizens gathered following the shooting.

"From what I've heard, someone just walked in and started shooting," she said.

Mosel said she "sadly" didn't attend church this morning, but the church is one she's attended.

"There's maybe 50 of us," she said. "It's a small, tight-knit church."

More than 2

No law will stop a killing like this...after all there are already several laws against shooting others and murder, those never seem to give the killers any pause.

This country sensationalizes cases like this so much, that each wacko out there is wanting to go out bigger than the last one did.

I agree. It seems that has gone extremely off the rails over the last decade or so. The internet has proved to be a breeding ground for it as well.

It's too easy to label someone you disagree with as an "other" to be loathed or despised. It's only a couple short steps after that once that animosity becomes a big bag of bile festering inside the wrong unhinged person.

I'll be shocked if it is a family related issue, not with gunning down an entire church. This person either had an issue with this church or it was done to make some sort of social statement...I'm guessing the latter.

Thanks for your insight. I think you made some very valid points and I agree with pretty much all of it. I don't know how we address this kind of thing, but we desperately need to.

Amen Jim.

I'm not a LEO. I just wondered and wouldn't be surprised simply because these small churches tend to be family oriented and led. They also tend to be closed knit.

The reason for my hypothesis Jumper was the thought that a marriage is on the rocks and a guy thinks that the family and church are supporting his spouse. He goes off the deep end and takes out the source of his anger in his mind.

Spot on, Jim!

First Baptist Church Pastor Frank Pomeroy tells ABC his 14 year old daughter is among the dead.

So the pastor survived?
