Church Shooting in San Antonio, TX; Multiple Fatalities, Shooter Dead

Let's fix the gun problem in this and many other killings this year. Then we will fix the bomb problem if that becomes the next method.

The arguments that the perpetrators will find something else to kill with are not a reason we should not try to stop them from killing with semi-automatic weapons.

So let me ask the direct question - why shouldn't semi-automatic weapons be banned?

Except you and others never talk about banning vehicles. Only guns.

Back to the bolded, semi auto weapons. You do know that nearly every gun manufactured these days is semi auto, right? I'm talking hand guns, shotguns, hunting rifles, etc. So we should just ban them all and hope the bad guys read the letterhead that say's they're no longer legal to possess?

The world has the same amount of mass shooting as the US?

Ban all Semi Automatic firearms, what guns would you allow Americans to own in the VOR America?

What's your plan to keep the gun away from the bad guy?

I don't have one. I was hoping to find some sensible answers on here.

During the ten year ban, there were 15 mass murder shootings. There have been 10 this year alone.

There were 15 during the ten year ban. In the ten years after the ban was lifted there were 37.

In the last 3 years there have been 23 mass murder shootings.

US Mass Shootings, 1982-217: Data From Mother Jones’ Investigation – Mother Jones

In the 12 years prior to the ban there were 19 events, an average of 1.5 per year. The exact average of the ban years. We can debate the statistics until we’re blue in the face. I see nothing in the 1994 ban that allows me to logically conclude that it would keep a person from purchasing or owning an assault weapon.

So if it makes people feel better, sure ban them again.

...and here we go, the gun debate. Nobody will change their perspective and support their own views with statistics that support that. Nothing new here.

Bottom line with guns, NRA and their $$ keep all type of guns in people's hands and always will. It doesn't matter if they are right or wrong. They control this issue with $$ and legislative jobs.

So people are going to have all kinds of guns, legally and illegally. It isn't going to change, so these things will keep happening with guns. With cars. With whatever people think of next (chemicals, viruses, etc.)

The thread has gotten away from RTS's question. There is no one answer or solution,. I think we all know that. But we can't take things off the table to discuss or legislate because of $$, but we do and will.

So let's just say everybody can have any type of gun they want, knowing that, what do we do now? What I envision is probably different than what others envision with that scenario.

I would like to see a bipartisan (which I don't think there is anymore) group take a comprehensive look at the issue.

If we refuse to learn from what other countries have done to have less of any type of violence, then we have become learned. An extremely dangerous position. But I am afraid we have been fooled to believe we are a learned society in our beliefs on all sides. Thus we cannot discuss this issue or any other anymore without hatred spewing forth. Because our society has become learned and not willing to listen another view. All or nothing is also an extremely path to take. But we are way down that path and we are messed up.

It's starting to look like banning everything other than blackpowder is what will fix the problem.

So, no hunting rifles?

Please educate me. Did the previous ban prevent the purchase of hunting rifles?

That is why I am asking the question - why shouldn't semi-automatic weapons be banned like they were in 1994-2004?

Why is the argument to always jump to the extreme? No need for the paranoia. I stated above that 96% of Americans are against banning all guns. That is never going to happen.

The previous ban didn't include the majority of semi automatics..

Then no problem with putting that ban back in place?

Hunting rifles are semi auto. That's why I asked you that question. Most weapons used in attacks are less potent than hunting rifles. They just look military.

I am against banning all guns.

Does the gun industry do anything to aid this issue? Just threw a load of laundry in and Tide developed a special package and an ad campaign to combat babies eating the pods.

Phone companies are battling texting and driving.

I'm not trying to get into an argument with you, but you don't understand what is a semi automatic weapon and what is not. You should research it and then hash it out. I go bird hunting with a semi auto shotgun for instance. There is no reason to ban my Benelli.
