Church Shooting in San Antonio, TX; Multiple Fatalities, Shooter Dead

Featured Replies

That would definitely skew the numbers. 9/11 jacked up the numbers on plane hijackings and deaths.

My point is whether domestic or international, senseless killings are continuing worldwide. The ideology behind it doesn't give it a pass elsewhere. We've had mass shootings in this country where ISIS claimed responsibility.

Not true? Show me these threads here on BGP. Show me anywhere near the same coverage on TV as what happened today.

The large mass murder is always going to get the media hype like what we saw today. How much coverage has there been on the Las Vegas shootings in the last two weeks? It is the nature of the beast that a large mass shooting will get all the media's attention when it first happens.

There has been a good amount of coverage of what is happening in Chicago. I did a quick google search and saw stories by the NY Times, LA Times, Newsweek, slate, Fox, Business Insider, Washington Post ...

What's your plan to keep the gun away from the bad guy?

He doesn’t have one, especially where reality is concerned.

Come on, the carnage is unmatched and continuous. The coverage is bleak to non-existent.

I don't have one. I was hoping to find some sensible answers on here.

Then why are you so concerned with disarming law abiding citizens?

Okay, everyone. For the most part, conversation has been civil and the only politics has been tied in with the gun debate. Thank you.

Let's keep the civility and not attack each other. Perhaps we could even model the non-devisive behavior we wish that we had in the world.

Does anyone ever hunt with the one pictured on top? Why not? That is a serious question. I am not trying to make a point. I am trying to learn.

Yes. FYI, they are basically both the same guns in the photo. I have a laser scope on my version on the one on top.

Maybe it's because I read a lot of papers and watch a lot of news I see more than others, but I have seen and heard plenty of stories on this situation.

The answer is they're basically the same rifle. The one that looks military is what everyone wants banned because of how it looks. Both can do the same damage. The ban you propose to bring back would ban the one, but not the other.

They are great for Coyote Hunting.

Again, seeking to learn. Do both of those guns hold/shoot the same amount of bullets at the same speed?

Yep, exact same Ammo in both and same ballistic profile from both rifles. Size of magazines determines how many rounds each can hold, but each can hold the same.

Have any of the mass murderers used the type of gun in the bottom picture, or have they all used the one pictured up top? Why or why not?

I don't know if the one on the top has been used either...both are Ruger Mini-14s one just has a different stock on it.

I think there have been some police shootouts where Mini-14s have been used, but I'm not sure about a LARGE mass shooting. Of the 100's of multi victim shooting I'm sure there have been some Mini-14s used.

The Mini-14 with the wooden stock has been for years marketed as a "Ranch" model as an all purpose rifle used to hunt and protect livestock from predators.

The stock and forearm or grip. Ruger Mini 14. Pop the small clip out and shove a 30 in and presto. Tape the clips together in 4s and you have 120 rounds at your disposal.

Gun control at this point wont work. Too many guns out there. Kudos to the guy who mowed this crazy down.

If what is being reported on the internet( Lord knows everything on the internet is true) actually is true( Antifi) then we have a bigger issue.

The hyper-sensitive preoccupation with our right to bear arms leading to so many to want to stockpile, leading to a massive over production of them all for the stubborn "me and my rights" shortsightedness can be thanked for that.

The people "Stockpiling" these weapons are in almost every single case not the ones committing the crimes. There have been a few like Las Vegas that stockpiled because they intended to commit a crime with them...but the vast majority I'd say 99.99% of people owning those guns do so for personal enjoyment and shooting not because they are stubborn or shortsighted.
