Church Shooting in San Antonio, TX; Multiple Fatalities, Shooter Dead

Featured Replies

Also someone with a weapon disrupted this guy today, a citizen, probably saved multiple lives.

Sadly, if true, that is going to be ignored.

To the bolded, how exactly do we eliminate part of the problem? The guy could have got hands on a gun if he wanted one regardless of any law against him having it. Though it turns out that a local next to the church is who stopped this attack and forced the suspect to retreat. Why did that happen, because the local neighbor was armed. Take that person's gun away and this could have been even worse than it already is.

So what? So what if somehow illegally the perpetrators can or did get their weapons illegally? Let's at least try to prevent the ones who got them legally.

During the ten year ban, there were 15 mass murder shootings. There have been 10 this year alone.

There were 15 during the ten year ban. In the ten years after the ban was lifted there were 37.

In the last 3 years there have been 23 mass murder shootings.

US Mass Shootings, 1982-217: Data From Mother Jones’ Investigation – Mother Jones

January 8, 2017 – A vehicle plowed into soldiers who are part of the Israel Defense Forces killing four and injuring 17. After the incident occurred, Prime Minister Netanyahu called the suspect an ISIS supporter and condemned the attacks.

March 22, 2017 – Four pedestrians were killed and 50 others were injured after a car hit them on the Westminster Bridge in London. Afterwards, the suspect fatally stabbed a police officer. Parliament was placed in a lockdown as a result of what happened.

April 7, 2017 – Four people were killed and 15 others were injured after a father of four used a hijacked beer truck to hit pedestrians in Stockholm, Sweden. The terrorist particularly targeted young children on a road that is mostly used for shopping.

June 3, 2017 – A van crashed into pedestrians walking on the London Bridge. Eight people were killed as a result while 48 others were injured. After the crash, the terrorists stabbed people who occupied restaurants and pubs nearby. All three suspects involved were shot and killed by police.

June 18, 2017 – A van drove into pedestrians near Finsbury Park Mosque in northern London. No one was killed but several were injured. The incident occurred after Ramadan evening prayers ended and the suspect was arrested and charged with terrorism by Met Police.

August 9, 2017 – A driver rammed his car into soldiers near barracks in Paris, France. Six people were injured and the country’s interior minister said, “we know this was a deliberate act.” The suspect was charged with “attempted murder of security forces in connection with a terrorist enterprise.”

August 12, 2017 – During a white nationalist protest in Charlottesville, Va. known as “United the Right Rally,” a car ran into counter protesters injuring 19 people. One person died as a result of the attack. Two state troopers reporting to the scene were also killed en route in a helicopter crash. The victim of the vehicular attack, Heather D. Heyer, was a 32-year-old paralegal.

August 18, 2017 – 14 people died and more than 100 people were injured after a car ran over pedestrians and a couple of police officers on Las Ramblas – a popular tourist location in Barcelona, Spain. ISIS took responsibility for the attack. The driver of the van that attacked crowds in Las Ramblas was killed on August 21st.

September 30, 2017 – A man driving a white Chevrolet Malibu in Edmonton, Canada passed a police checkpoint and knocked an officer down. The suspect also attacked the officer and stabbed him before hitting four pedestrians during a police chase. The officer and the pedestrians all survived the attack. The suspect has not been charged with terrorism.

October 31, 2017 – At least eight people were killed and 15 others were injured after a motorist hit pedestrians and bikers on a bike path in lower Manhattan. The suspect tried to flee the scene with a weapon but was shot by police and taken to the hospital.

So what? So what if somehow illegally the perpetrators can or did get their weapons illegally? Let's at least try to prevent the ones who got them legally.

What about the lives saved by the good guy with a gun?

Sadly, if true, that is going to be ignored.

Please do not make the leap that banning semi-automatic weapons means no one can have weapons. The vast majority of Americans do not want guns banned. The vast majority of Americans will never agree to a repeal of the second amendment. But almost all Americans want gun control (96%).

But by doing so is it going to prevent you, I, or the neighbor of the church from getting them as well? If so, I'm not on board.

So lets continue to dance around the obvious difference between our "civilized" country and other civilized countries who don't seem to have anywhere near the problem that we do.

You work on fixing the vehicle killings problem. I'll work on fixing the mass shootings problem. I have my hands full with the mass shootings, and it has nothing to do with the vehicle problem.

You're pretending as if we don't already have gun control. Take a good look at the gun laws already in place. Laws, mind you, that are being ignored by these nut jobs committing such heinous acts.

Seems to be a world problem that needs to be tackled. Mass shootings seem to be an American problem.

That man needs to be commended for his courage.

Would the good guy be needed if the bad guy didn't have the gun?

There are always bad guys, they don't need a gun. This guy just as easily could have blown the church up or driven into it with a semi...the gun is only the instrument of his evil warped plan.

So yes there will ALWAYS be a need for Good Guys with a gun...they won't stop every murderous plan but it's good to know they can stop some.

That man needs to be commended for his courage.

What's your plan to keep the gun away from the bad guy?

So lets continue to dance around the obvious difference between our "civilized" country and other civilized countries who don't seem to have anywhere near the problem that we do.

Yet they still have problems nonetheless. I recently read where there were 27% more casualties per capita from mass public shootings in EU than US from 2009-15.

Seems to be a world problem that needs to be tackled. Mass shootings seem to be an American problem.

American shooting seem to generally fall into one of two categories...Mental Disorder or a Hate/Ideaology. Those are the issues that need to be addressed not the window dressing that is guns.
