August 7, 20179 yr I've done the Citrus Park to Hamilton trip in one day a couple of times, with me driving the entire time. It's about 950 miles. I prefer to break it up, though. We usually stop in Kennesaw, GA when we do that.
August 7, 20179 yr I drove from Cincy to Los Angeles in a uhaul once with a friend who moved out there. That was fun. Stayed out there with him for aboit 4 days before coming home. He paid for my flight home.

He paid for my flight home. Completely forgot the two times my family drive across country while I was growing up. Dover, DE to Los Angeles. I was too young to drive, 13 the first trip and 15 the second time. Can't remember exactly how long it took, but I think it was a little over 3 days as we spent two nights with family along the way. I think we drove almost 20 hours the first day and about 10-11 hours each of the next two days. Right around 3000 miles each way. Got to see a lot of cool things across the country, but there were long stretches of a whole lot of nothing as well. We had three drivers, my Mom, Dad and my Aunt, so I don't think anybody got stuck with any real long shifts. Edited August 7, 20179 yr by rjs4470
August 7, 20179 yr My personal best was driving out to Denver from Northern Kentucky, which is right around 1200 miles. It took us somewhere in the neighborhood of 18 hours, if I remember correctly. Same for me...Denver to Lexington...left Denver about 230 am, got to Lex about 800 pm or so. All by myself with almost no sleep. Pulled over somewhere in KS about 530 am or abouts to get some shuteye, but parking lot was so noisy that didn't last long and was back on the road after about 45 minutes.
August 7, 20179 yr Solo driving, I do the the Florence to Milwaukee drive a couple times a year. That's about 400 miles. Shared driving, we do the Florence-Destin trip about once a year. "Forensic Files" makes the miles fly. Did 635 miles just two weeks ago (NKY to Michigan's UP), and did an audio book during the trip. (Normally I just have music on.) It was an 8-hour "book". Was amazed at how quickly time went. Also, a tip for those traveling with little ones...travelling at night can be your friend. We started leaving anywhere between 10pm and 2am, just so our little guy would sleep for the majority of the time. It also has an added benefit of less traffic on the road during the overnight hours. Just make sure you're well rested beforehand, though.
August 7, 20179 yr My first real job was a dispatcher for a trucking company. They made me go out with a driver for a week to see what they go through. I didn't drive at all but had to sit in the passenger seat of a big rig for a week straight. I couldn't keep my eyes open. We went from Cincinnati to Baltimore to Newark, NJ to Cleveland to Indy back to Baltimore and back to Cincinnati. It was miserable.

Just make sure you're well rested beforehand, though. I second the advise of leaving over night with little ones. We did this all the time for our trips back east while the kids were young. It takes a little out of the day you arrive, but it's a much easier trip when they are sleeping.
August 7, 20179 yr This jaunt around year 2001 .. drove to our camp in Canada , 1100 miles to the boat dock , fished a week , drove home on Sunday .. worked three 12 hour shifts , left again on thursday and did the 1100 miles again ( in a VW Jetta diesel ) . I was so in love with our place in Canada it was worth it .
