March 26, 20188 yr I can only speak for myself (and my friends that I've talked to), but I absolutely want it in Kentucky if given a choice. It's a much better location than either Oakley or the West End IMO. View wise sure its better, but logistically its not. You can barely get around Newport now, let alone adding 25K people for a soccer game and other events hosted there.
March 26, 20188 yr We don't want their stadium in KY. Soccer will always be a minor league sport compared to the other pro sports. I don't know why people want to play it, yet alone watch it. I think it's more of a party thing in the stands and less that they care about watching a ball get kicked back and forth. Plus, based on all of KYs pension issues, there better not be a huge tax relief given like FCC was trying to do to CPS. Like it or not, Soccer is still growing in popularity. While I'm not sure it will ever be on the level of the big 3 (football, baseball, basketball), it absolutely does have a fan base, and plenty of people willing to pay money and watch. I'm not sure I understand why the anti soccer crowd goes out of their way to keep taking pot shots at the sport. I'll likely never be fan (and I've tried), but there's clearly something about that millions of people around the world enjoy.

Just because you don't like a sport doesn't mean it isn't enjoyed by others. Plus, based on all of KYs pension issues, there better not be a huge tax relief given like FCC was trying to do to CPS. This is a good argument. If money is such an issue in Kentucky then they absolutely do not need to be giving tax breaks to build stadiums.

The Greater Cincinnati Redevelopment Authority originally had a meeting scheduled for today to discuss potentially helping with the financing situation for the possible Oakley stadium, and then last night the GCRA chairman called off the meeting saying, "It is clear FC Cincinnati is still looking at three sites. March 28, 20188 yr Not to jump in the middle of the question to gametime but I will offer this information. Berding and FCC don't need to talk to the Newport mayor or really anyone else in Kentucky. The site is there and ready to be built upon and there is a tax incentive in place already. No need for discussions of any kind. They have an option on the land. If they want to build a stadium there, it is ready to go. That is part of the reason why you have not heard as much about the Newport site. There aren't any obstacles at all that I am aware of on that site.

Probably telling the truth. The long con on the Cincinnati sites wouldn't hold up if the Newport conversations stayed active IMO...

So...if they build the stadium, and don't get in the MLS, he's going to close the franchise? Sounds like a swell guy. Can't see why people aren't lining up to get behind this guy. In all honesty, if this is a direct quote from him (and not something that's just hearsay), all three property site owners/controllers should tell him to go pound salt.
