Is the MLS forcing those teams to build a soccer only stadium?

 

I'm pretty sure their owners own the stadiums.

I was talking with someone today about the much higher attendance potential at PBS. This person has a lot of knowledge about FCC and told me that FCC would make a lot more money at their own stadium despite it seating only 21,000.

Berding said today that FCC has entered a contract to buy the Cast-Fab Technologies land in Oakley if infrastructure funding is obtained.

Nope. It's why I said earlier in the thread that everything in MLS is a rule right up until it's not.

 

They change rules for favored owners and the biggest markets. Maybe that will include Cincinnati. Maybe it won't. I have my doubts.

True*. Berding said last week they would lose out on over 100 million by having their games at PBS and not a soccer specific stadium.

The Oakley Community Council voted unanimously against Mayor Cranley's proposal last night. They feel it takes funding from other projects in the Oakley area.

 

Cincinnati City Council is scheduled to vote this morning on the same proposal. FCC in Oakley may be finished.

I don’t understand how all this is happening at the 11th hour. Did no one at FCC bother to check in with the folks in Oakley to see if they wanted this before they started talking it up to everyone?

 

Or was Oakley always a sideshow to the NKY stadium?

The Oakley Community Council had supported FCC building a stadium in Oakley. This change of heart is because that original support was with no discussion of financials involved. They do not support using TIFs to build the stadium when that money can go to other developments.

I am ready for a decision to be made on this and move on. I listen to 700 wlw everyday on my way home and its the same talk everyday its exhausting. Oakley is too far from downtown anyways, put the stadium in Newport and be done with it. NKY is a much better location IMO and would have a nice view of downtown Cincy.

I'd rather have the retail and residential buildings go on the river front. Could be some high end places bringing in some decent revenue versus trying to find the funds to build another stadium.

I like that idea but the last I heard was that the project they had planned for the riverfront had gone bankrupt and there is no movement forward.

Yeah, not sure what they are doing down there. It's been vacant way too long. Last I heard, the developer was waiting for the AA highway extension and round-about project to be completed.

Well in what I see as a shocking move, the Cincinnati budget committee passed the proposal yesterday. It moves to a full vote tomorrow.
