May 30, 20188 yr I'd be really curious what percentage of the fans that show up at Nippert are UC students. I don't think its as high as many believe. I don’t think so either. What I saw on Saturday told me that they draw mostly from the post-college 20-somethings and families with kids. Have to remember schools out for the summer, when its in session I bet its more, now it might not be.
May 30, 20188 yr Thats been my thought as well, at least in the sections I tend to work and the enterance I post up next to. But, it seems to consistently be used by those that are pessimists against FCC and this move. Lets be clear, an increase in ticket price will also turn those college kids away. I wander if they start changing ticket prices now.

So, which is it? UC students drive FCC attendance or not? Having worked the majority of their games the last 2 seasons, I am not buying that argument.

May 30, 20188 yr I watched a bit of Sporting KC tonight. They play in a 18K seat stadium and have sold out 20 or so games in a row. Their tickets are in the $30 range and up. I believe I heard FCC was raising their tickets by $15 which would put GA tickets at $25.
May 30, 20188 yr Have they announced the playing surface in the new stadium? I hope it is natural grass but I'm sure they are going to want to use the facility as much as possible so it may indeed be turf.

Increased ticket prices and the fact that they will lose significant ticket sales from the college crowd by no longer being on campus (which would have happened if they played anywhere else.) However I still dont get why so small. Just a little bigger, say 30K, and you can compete with PBS for other events when soccer is not in town and rake in some extra $$$$. That's fine. I realize that MLS tickets will be pricey. I agree with what you say about a stadium that could hold 30,000. I'm thinking that would make Cincy be competitive to hold more US men's and women's matches as well as be attractive for top European teams (England, Spain or Germany) to come over and have friendlies with FCC.

You don’t really need all that these days. Kansas City has hosted a bunch of USA games and it only holds 18,000. And European teams have played in the US recently in stadiums under 10,000. It just depends on the team.

They had 2 regular season home games prior to April 26th, when classes ended for the Spring Semester and have three regular season home games after August 27th, when classes begin for the fall semester. They have 17 scheduled regular season home games. 5/17 = 71% of their home games are played when UC is out of session. Throw in their international friendly and an Open Cup game or two and you're right about....80%. Hate when facts get in the way of a bad take.

May 30, 20188 yr The stadium is being designed for easy expansion. If they're selling out 21k every game for two or three years in the new stadium, they will have room to increase to 25k with relatively easy installation. I believe they are also working on ways to bump up to 30k beyond that with a second expansion if necessary. We'll see how necessary that is, though. If the team is still mid-to-bottom on the table in year three at the new stadium, I doubt they'll have need to expand. But that's five years out, and attendance should be good until then just based on hype. Two years of 25k+ on average at Nippert behind the MLS hype, followed by a year or two of sellouts at the new joint regardless of how good or bad they are based on "new home" hype. Year three in the new place will start to tell the story.
June 29, 20188 yr Author Just found out that Turner Construction, who is overseeing the design and construction of the stadium, has persuaded FCC to take the design package for the stadium away from MSA, and they gave it to my brother's firm, Elevar....so my bro will be directly involved in the design of the stadium. Elevar will be the "local design manager", and a larger out of town firm, Meis Architecture, will be the architect of record. Meis was also architect of record for Paul Brown Stadium.

Having been there, if FCC can come up with something similar to Sporting’s place, then they will have the best stadium by far in Cincy and make me forget Nippert.

One of the City Council committees met on it this morning. No idea what's going to come of it. As much money as FC Cincinnati has behind it, there's an insane amount of old, highly-connected money behind the Cincinnati Arts Alliance and all of Music Hall's tenants. Depending on how they decide to handle it, this could end up a very public showdown between two extremely well-funded groups jockeying for position.
