You are talking about kids who are already in a high school. This thread started I believe about kids in the 8th grade selecting a high school. If you have not been in a any high school you can go where ever you want. Why is that a transfer? If a kid at St. Mary's grade school goes to Campbell Co., is that a transfer? If you haven't ever been in a high school I don't think choosing one constitutes a transfer where ever you go.

Yes Kenton county has open enrollment, and have for a long time. Again, remember, it's not just willy nilly open enrollment. You have to apply and get accepted by the school you want to go to if you wish to attend a school outside of where you live. If your grades/behavior aren't good, open enrollment is not an option for you in Kenton County. I see kids get denied all the time.

 

They also are not permitted to utilize the district's bus service. Parents are responsible for getting them there and getting them picked up each day.

I would think it would be foolish on their part to transfer if they were not moving out of the district and would then be eligible right away. Giving up a year of playing in high school is a huge deal.

Never made any sense to me that a family would have to move to have their kid attend a school that they could have went to anyway from the beginning. What if a family could not afford tuition and is able to now? Why should their kids not be eligible?

And how would it make any sense the other way? Maybe a change in family income means they can no longer afford to send kids to a private school. Why shouldn't the kids be eligible right away when now attending the public school?

Agree completely. It's just SO much is made when a kid transfers and everyone gets all upset, that I presume the KHSAA figures they would never be able to determine the true reason for the transfer. The whole thing is ridiculous.

The thing everyone has to remember about school districts and open enrollment is that the state funds schools based on Daily attendance. If school districts lose students to other school districts they lose money and would have a hard time staying open. Kenton County has open enrollment but the money coming from the state is staying in the same school system. Just something to think about when having this discussion.

I did find it interesting that NCC cheerleaders held a car wash at St. Joe's this weekend. St. Joe's is supposed to be a feeder to Brossart?
