So should we just do away with school districts? As in school zones?
School districts are self imposed boundaries. I never understood the point of them anyway.

Yes Kenton county has open enrollment, and have for a long time. Again, remember, it's not just willy nilly open enrollment. You have to apply and get accepted by the school you want to go to if you wish to attend a school outside of where you live. If your grades/behavior aren't good, open enrollment is not an option for you in Kenton County. I see kids get denied all the time.

Understand, but you and most people on here know the real reasons why.

Not every transfer is based on Athletics. No one ever seems to complain when the kid in the band transfers because of a better program or opportunity, but heaven forbid if a basketball player transfers. I don't understand why it's only a problem if an athlete transfers.

Kenton cty has open enrollment now. But Boone cty doesn't

Doesn't one still have to pay tuition?

I don't think the band is governed by the KHSAA. I think a lot of folks get salty since there are rules on transfers, yet some people get around them.

I know Band isn't governed by the KHSAA. But many kids make the decision to transfer based on things other than academics. Whether it's band, chorus or any other activity or because their parents don't like a principal or a teacher in the building. People only seem to get bent out of shape when sports are involved. As if sports are more important or the holy grail of high school activities and somehow more sacred.

If in fact these transfers tell the truth on why they transferred I am willing to bet its not for academics.

Let's not kid ourselves here.

I'm not claiming to know what's behind these transfers. My only point is why does it matter?? Why is transferring for sports frowned upon, and transferring for other reasons (academics, or other non sports activities) not?? All the same arguments, especially the loyalty one, all apply regardless of the reason.

Because there are rules against and I know if the state approves its fine but we all know they don't look into any of it or it wouldn't be happening as much as it is.

They look into it way more than people want to believe. People have to do quite a bit of hoop jumping to get ruled eligible. Anyone who does their homework and jumps through the hoops properly can retain their eligibility and in some cases you can do all of the homework, jump through the hoops and still not get eligibility and have to sit out a year.

Yep. You just don't hear about all the people that get rejected, some of which seem like they are rejected for no good reason. I know a coach who took a job at a new school with a legitimate move. His son was forced to sit out 1/2 of his senior season while his request and appeals were heard, rejected and finally approved.

According to their Dad they have been cleared by the KHSAA.

I have no problem with kids transferring for whatever reason, especially since it doesn't seem to matter anymore. The KHSAA has been very weak when it comes to enforcing the rules.

Your right they have to jump through a few hoops (paperwork) but the state hardly investigates any of it. It is way to easy to transfer.

It's truly not as easy at it appears. Ask Devon Cooper and he transferred back to the same school from out of state.

Ask Jaylen Beckham.

Ask Malik Dow.

Ask Will Dunn.

Ask Austin Hunt.

Ask Jeremiah Bell.

Ask Darryl Hicks.

To find out some facts. Some of the things that I would really like to know will not be asked on this thread.

So you want someone else to ask them, but not you. If you really are that interested then ask.
