Xavier 73 Arizona 71

Chris Mack is gonna look great in red and black in a few years.

That has been my speculation since Katina sang, especially if the NCAA comes down hard on Pitino. I still can't believe he has survived this long.

Very happy for my buddy MTGL. He must still be partying. :dancingpa

At what point is it going to happen for Sean Miller?

At what point is it going to happen for Arizona? Haven't been to a Final Four since 2001.

Couldn't make it through this one. Glad one of my alma maters won! Go Muskies!!!!

Thanks LRCW, you're a great friend and very thoughtful. Was a very late night, I'm on about 4 hours of sleep, and I couldn't be happier for a ton of people. I feel badly for Sean though; we exchanged texts at about 2:00 AM, and in pure Sean fashion, he couldn't have handled it with more class and more grace.

Saturday night will be a lot of fun. Thanks again. I remember how great the day in Phoenix was in March of 2008, between beating WVU and waiting on UCLA the next night -- just an awesome "off-day" (nothing off about it, but that is the term). I sure hope tomorrow's game goes better than that debacle did vs the Bruins. Luckily, there is no Russell Westbrook nor Kevin Love (I hope) on the Zags.

Way to go, X!!! It's always a good day when Arizona goes down! :ylsuper:

And the reality...either Xavier or Gonzaga will be going to Phoenix

Add in Florida, Wisconsin, Baylor, and South Carolina and one of those six will be playing for the national title.

This game put the final nail in my bracket but I ain't mad.

I bet Bill Murray hopes he wakes up on this morning over and over

Mack flat out dominated that game. He tossed everything he had at Miller, and Arizona struggled to answer at pretty much every turn. Zona had multiple chances to put the game away and X would answer with a power response every time.

Talent level was a drastic edge to one side. Coaching and execution to the other. The latter was clearly better...

No doubt on the Mack point. In fact, who runs better offensive sets than what X is doing right now? They have to be right at the top of the list of teams that can execute in the half court. They also run very nice in bounds plays. So many people seem to have given up on running an offensive end in bounds play. Teams just lob it in and set up their offense. X runs some very good in bounds plays.

Can X play that well 1, 2, 3 more times? They were hitting on all cylinders last night. They shot over 50% from the floor. Only 8 turnovers. Defense making virtually every opponent shot a contested one and keeping shooters off the 3 point line. I honestly can't think of any team in the tournament executing better than Xavier.

Really excited for Xavier, huge huge win! I went to bed when Zona was on a 10-0 (I think) run. They hit back to back 3's to go up 67-61. Was so happy to wake up and see the final score.

Beat the Zags!

Big part of why X is winning right now....

Goodin: 30% (6-20), 33% (1-3)

Bernard: 69% (9-13), 71% (5-7)

Bluiett: 52% (24-46), 48% (11-23)

Gaston: 67% (2-3)

Gates: 63% (10-16), 54% (7-13)

Jones: 62% (8-13)

Macura: 42% (13-31), 22% (2-9)

O'Mara: 85% (11-13)

That totals, 54% (83-155) from the floor and 47% (26-55) from deep...Gonna win a lot of ballgames shooting the ball that way.

No doubt. Great shooting and offensive execution will overcome many shortcomings. I am not saying X had any shortcomings last night, just in general - a team putting the ball in the basket at that rate wins a lot of games regardless of anything else they might do in a game.
