Good points. Everyone is acting like NKU played so great and almost pulled off the upset of the century. UK was just lethargic and still won by 9. If they play 9 more times, UK wins each by double digits.

Set plays are for coaches who a)have less talented players than the opposition or b)they have a small breadth of knowledge of the offensive side of basketball. I suppose Phil Jackson doesn't know anything about running an offense either. Ever heard of the Triangle offense. Those aren't "plays" their concepts based on spacing and identifying weaknesses in the defense. But the NKU starters played more minutes than what they usually do. All year the NKU bench has been an asset allowing the starters ample rest. Thought last night the bench really do not do much and even though NKU outscored UK in the second half, I think NKU starters could have played a lot better at the close of the first half if they did not have to put in more minutes than normal.

What exactly was your point of complaining about Monk after this last game? Every shot he took was a good shot. He didn't force anything like he does sometimes. He played good defense and starting to go inside to try to help rebound.

Over last six he is shooting 33% from the floor and a paltry 18% on 3's. You speak of his strong rebounding...2 in last 2 games doesn't measure up to me. Strong D? No measureables to prove or disprove. Right now one can argue the offense flows better without him than with him. Potential, yes. But, the type player my head tells me we will not ride far in this NCAA run.

Once again what does your AAU comment have to do with that? No one would argue his shot is off right now. With that said he has done a much better job at not forcing things because he knows his shot is off. You would have a point if he was taking contested shots all game and missing. The shots he is taking right now are good shots, he is simply missing. One of the best shooters in the NBA Steph Curry has been in almost month long slump shooting the ball. It doesn't mean they are better without him.

 

At the end of the day even with him in a slump other teams know what he is capable of, and will give him a lot of attention and keep switching and chasing him around the court off screens. Him being on the court helps the offense more than it hurts, even when he is in a slump like now.

To me the biggest miss in recent years is not an in state guy, it was Luke Kennard. We could have really used a knock down shooter this time of year. Just north of Cincy, Cal should have locked him down.
