Addictions: What is the Toughest One For You to Manage???

Featured Replies

America is a land of addicts. We are addicted to everything--- Drugs, Sex , Gambling , Food, Social Media(Internet). Which addiction to you think is the hardest for people to kick? What would be the hardest thing for you to give up? My dad has struggled with cigarettes for most of his life. Can't seem to put them away for good, despite cancer and vascular disease. Others struggle with alcohol, many others with pills or other drugs. My mom gambles more than she needs to. Some folks' kill themselves with food. For many, like Charlie Sheen, sex is the vice that has a choke hold(pun intended).

In your view, what addiction is the hardest to put aside, or at least manage in a way that it doesn't adversely affect one's life? Add a category to these if you wish.

Alcohol/Tobacco

Drugs(Other than A&T)

Sex(Includes Pornography )

Gambling(Includes casinos, sports and online gambling)

Social Media/Internet(Includes BGP)

Food

Entertainment(TV, movies, sporting events)

Phone in general. Social media.

I wish to goodness I didn't even have a smart phone most of the time. I've all, but deleted Facebook and even twitter (have from my phone) completely.

Why we all don't have flip phones, and carry around iPods (mainly from a financial standpoint, and the time smart phones consume) for things like taking pictures and/or when we actually need social media is beyond me.

Those of us that or married and/or have have families pay in upwards of $200 or more a month on phones that completely consume us.....how dumb is that?

Tobacco for 42 years until 20 months ago. Nothing now. I could probably be addicted to gambling if I would blow it. I am not addicted to sex. Wouldn't help if I was.

Too much diet coke or diet Ale 8 is my issue.

I stopped drinking coffee about 20 years ago.

Stopped drinking alcoholic beverages 8 years ago.

Stopped smoking in 1972 during my first year of college. Smoked throughout high school. Marboro, 25 cents per pack in those days.

Food, Tv and ask my wife :D

In all seriousness, I used to be to poker. I'd change clothes at work on Friday and leave from the office bound for Tunica. I'd literally go 3 out of 4 weekends a month at least. Made a lot of money and paid off a lot of my college debt. It was almost like a 2nd job.

My wife wishes i got addicted to completing projects on our home...:)

To quit smoking was a breeze compared to giving up caffeine.

Food.

Not trying to downplay the seriousness of alcoholism, but by comparison you don't need booze to survive, so if you can manage to put it down you hopefully have got it licked, however food is something that we all need to survive, so everyday is a challenge to know when enough is enough.

You're constantly day after day out of necessity having to revisit the stimulus of food, yet what you need to stay alive can also kill you. You can't just avoid it to get it under control because starving yourself is a bad idea too.

Getting to a point where you can view food as fuel and something that should be done with balance is very doable, yet sometimes falling off that wagon is just one moist decadent chocolate brownie away.

Internet/Phone

I've been trying to leave it at home or in another room more often and it drives me nuts to do it.

I struggle with it all. I think some people just have a curse of addiction.
