WHO CARES?????????

Ray Bentley (Bills, Bengals) used to paint his face, I could care less but the kid looks bigger than 5'10" 210.

No offense but how can you compare Ryle and Hoover kids? Once you become the top team in the nation then you can paint your face like them.

How you ask? Because they are all KIDS!! Do you have to accumulate a certain amount of points, like rebates or something, before you can paint your face? If a kid wants to paint his face, let him....... I'm with proudmom. These guys bust their butts, and if they want to have a little fun painting their face, so be it. I personally don't care for it, but remember, these are kids......they are supposed to be having fun!

That’s great advice. LOL ;)

Sorry, touched a nerve a bit......:jump:

Not to go off thread or anything but is Ryle going with all black helmets with no decals this year?

Pretty sure John Randle as mentioned above is the one who started this sort of trend. Although Randle did something a little different, he made his more like raccoon eyes. I can't imagine that, on your eye lids and everything with the sweat pouring down and getting in your eyes. I always idolized Randle growing up and once heard a myth that he would do reps of pushing and sit ups using a deck of cards each day after a workout. He would alternate between the two, as he pulled cards out of the deck and that's how many reps he would do for that particular set. None the less, I have no problem with kids doing this some may consider it war paint or something and there is no doubt that in football you're definitely going to war. If it doesn't distract from the game and cause a hazard I see nothing wrong with it. As someone said above it's no different than a kid wearing a neck board, shield, rib protector, back protector, spatting the ole' cleats, wearing high socks, gloves or sweat bands it's all a personal preference. I've even seen some teams do it in baseball. Here's a couple of pics of Randle's game face.

Don't have a problem with it. My last game my senior year, which was along time ago our coach let us tape our helmets any way we wanted. We had alot of fun with it, so I see no harm in the face painting.

I'll tell you why I don't like it, because football is a team game. If it isn't part of your uniform or has no purpose don't allow it. I'm not a big fan of individual expression in football. JMO.

As to the question about winning. Kids do this (along with the other stuff mentioned) to draw attention. I think if you are going to get people to notice you, you should live up to the challenge and win. Again, JMO.

Two years ago a teammate of my son's was told by the officials before the game to remove the eyeblack (had the John Randle look as well) or he could not play!I personally don't see any harm in it.

Kids don't need that. John Randle is a professional and gets paid. The best arguement against it is this:

Just like everything else, kids will push to see how far they can go. What's next, full KISS (70's style) face paint. how would you like to see Gene, Paul, Ace, or Peter running around your locker room? Nip it in the bud. It just isn't part of the game.

Whats the deal with those helemts. Ryle use to have a pretty decent looking logo. I guess it wasnt in the budget this year for decals.

I think that face painting should be banned. Im fine with eye black but painting your face like a pro wrestler is just overboard.

I think if a kid wants to paint freckles across his nose and draw a goatee it shouldn't be a problem. High school only happens once.

Kid's being kids, that's all. I would love for them to do away with all the wristbands, face paint, under armor all over, etc. but that is the culture we live in.

Current "culture" does not mean it's right.

I know a coach or two that banned their players from it...who's running the show? The coach or "culture"?

One of these same coaches told their players to spend their pregame "face painting" time focusing on the opponent.

I guess there is a reason why it's called a "uniform". ;)
