I would rather suffer through a Trump presidency where nothing he wants gets accomplished than have an Clinton presidency where she accomplishes anything. I'd be fine for the country to just stay status quo for the next four years when hopefully both parties could come up with options of someone who would be a decent president.

Honestly though if both were to truly get nothing accomplished at all, I would rather have Hillary be president all day. The view of America from the rest of the world will be much better. Trump makes us look like a joke. Keep in mind this is coming from a life long Republican.

I can't speak with any base of knowlege about the Special Education programs at most private schools. I have no idea how many kids each school has in those programs. Do you?

Does your wife work at a public or private? If at a public and approximately 18% are s/e or l/d, what is that percentage in the average private? Most parents of these kids, if they are motivated and have the ability, will find the best programs for their kids and vouchers would help them pay for that.

Public. My experience has been that our local privates have quickly shuffled these problems off to the public schools because of the costs to their budgets. Public schools HAVE to take all students who are in their district.

The reason that Publics have to take all students within the district is that they receive tax dollars to ensure that they are able to do so. Special needs students receive additional funding from both the State and Federal Governments which is allotted to the schools based on the number of special needs students. Private schools do not receive tax dollars which may be why they could be less able to help as many special needs students. Also, there are some private schools that are set up especially for special needs populations. Schools that specialize in autism, schools for the deaf etc.

You are partly correct. The funding is mostly federal and it does not cover the costs of educating those students to what many of their plans demand, which are legally binding. Just because it may cost an extra 15K to educate the student does not mean the government will reimburse you for that. That extra $$ is taken from local funds. Government reimbursement averages about 40% of the cost to educate those with disabilities.

 

I believe all states have a school for the deaf and/or blind. These are state run and funded with tax $$. There are private schools funded by foundations and sometimes parents for students with disabilities, not many but a few. Sometimes public districts will pay the private schools to educate students, but the cost is way more than the district is reimbursed, but it might be the best placement and the district has to do it. Private schools can and do receive public funding for special needs students but not near enough to cover the costs, so they rarely take them. They do, though, occasionally take low incidence disabled students.

Very informative! Thanks for this. I know that local citizens are significantly taxed for public education. It becomes a double whammy when you send a child to a Private school and still get hit with the tax bill for the Public school.

I actually have had a similar conversation with myself. My kids are grown, but I have a 4 year old granddaughter and another almost 2. What will their world be like if Trump becomes POTUS? What are the longterm ramifications, even if he is only one term? Beyond his attitude toward women. He scares the hell out of me. I've disliked many candidates, and disagreed with most of them. He's the first one that truly has made me feel fear.

This has been said on TV a number of times, why and what has he made you feel fear?
