October 7, 20169 yr One of my tailgate partners lives on a farm a couple of miles from the east coast in Palm City, just outside of Stuart and north of Jupiter. From his facebook page around 1 this morning... "Just lost power, still some strong winds from this band. Storm is keeping offshore and moving north so we should be okay in a few hours. Once the storm moves on and the winds die down I can fire up the generators. So far no trees down that I can see from the house."
October 7, 20169 yr 1. It's a hassle. (I know, this shouldn't keep them from leaving) 2. People that have been around for a long time have heard of several storms that were supposed to be "bad," they hung around for them and they weren't that bad. So it's kinda "Boy who cried wolf" for a lot of people. I've known a few people that stayed put for hurricanes before, they did not do it more than once. Plus, it's hard to walk away from everything you own. Even though there's nothing you can do , staying gives you at least some feeling of control.
October 7, 20169 yr Decided to cancel Disney trip. Fortunately, with the Disney Hurricane clause, we will get a full refund. With the potential for a loop-back, I do not see taking the risk of hauling the camper to Orlando. Very disappointing to the boys though. October 7, 20169 yr Author 1st US death reported in St. Lucie, Fla. 58 year old woman died of cardiac arrest. Call came in after district official's had suspended operations because of storm. The officials are calling this storm related because they had suspended operations and couldn't get to her.
October 7, 20169 yr I am cruising the high seas this week, they did some port changes and actually had nice weather, our problem will be getting back it seems. The Caption says we may be a day late, plus with the airports closing our fights will be screwed up, plus it sure car rentals are either gone or closed, so any bg folks with a van, we pay by the mile. Back on land soon I'm hoping and praying.

Many living on barrier islands and in low-lying areas found themselves cut off by Friday morning, with the worst of the hurricane still bearing down on them, said Brevard County Emergency Operations spokesman David Waters. "A family called in that the roof just flew off their home on Merritt Island," Waters said. Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for 90,000 people living on barrier islands and in mobile homes and low-lying areas. October 7, 20169 yr Serious question. What would possess someone that is able to not leave the area? Seems dumb to me. The looting of damaged homes to start with Id assume. To protect what you might have left after the storm.
October 7, 20169 yr Just talked to my parents. The eye of the storm is about 40 miles due east of them. Lots of rain, strongest wind supposed to be there in an hour or two. No electricity (along with close to a million other Floridians).

October 7, 20169 yr Just received a Picture Text from my Brother. His boat made it!:dancingpa He said they lucked out because the Storm Surge hit at Low Tide and didn't Flood near as Bad. If it would of been at High Tide he said it would of been a much different Story. Now the Cleanup!
