It's times like this when I truly appreciate my friendship with Buddy Trumbo so I can help try and keep things classy and respectful between us. Buddy knows everyone so I can tell him all I know and I know he'll pass along the truth and not rumors that fan the flames.

I can't find anything from anyone. Folks must have deleted their tweets. I know parents have been making unsubstantiated claims on Facebook that had to be refuted. I swear the adults make things worse than the kids do. It gets old. Same old thing every year.

As it's probably known I am a Boyle fan but I am also a realist. I've voted against my Rebs both games this year hoping to be proven wrong but it hasn't happened yet. I wasn't sure who I thought would win this one so I had to do some comparisons of the teams and this is what I came up with so far. (All stats are from KHSAA site).

QB's- Advantage Danville. Zack Dampier has started the season on fire going 36-50 616 YDS and 9 TD to 0 INT compared to Sam Tiller's 24-46 256 YDS and 3 TD to 2 INT. Dampier is in his 3rd or 4th year starting and definitely has the experience factor over Tiller who is in his first year as the starter and will be playing significantly in this rivalry for the first time.

 

RB & WR- Advantage Danville. Dmaurie Vancleve 11 Rec 198 YDS 4 TD, Ellison Stanfield 11 rec 185 YDS 2 TD and David Walker 10 rec 115 YDS 2 TD head a receiving core full of speed and big play potential to go with hard nosed Donlevy Harris at RB 25 carries 205 YDS 2 TD. Boyle loses its biggest playmaker so far in Reese Smith 5 rec 112 YDS 2 TD for a few weeks to injury and looks to the rest of the receiving core to step up and take his place. The next 3 leading receivers for Boyle have combined for 13 rec 95 YDS and 1 TD. They do tout a quality back in Trintin Ashburn who has 177 YDS on 46 carries and 2 TDs he doesn't shy away from contact and likes to run behind his pads.

 

TE- Advantage Danville. Neither team returns much experience at the TE position but I give the nod to Danville because of Jaleel Warrens soft hands and deep threat capabilities. So far he has 1 catch for 38 YDS and a TD. Boyle has 1 reception for 11 yards out of their TE, Christian Reeves.

 

OL- Advantage Boyle. Danville has an entirely brand new OL this year who is doing a commendable job so far. Boyle's OL is regarded as the strength of their offense and returns several starters from last year's 10-2 team.

 

Defense- Advantage Boyle. I'm going to catch some flack for this one but hear me out. Danville brings in a lot of new faces on the defensive side of the ball and most of the guys go both ways. So far this year Danville has given up 239 yards on the ground and 440 yards through the air. Boyle brings in a Defense that has given up 256 yards on the ground and 271 through the air. Boyle has 3-5 guys that go both ways but they often rotate to stay fresh. In the secondary Evan Tarter has held his own against bigger and faster competition coming up with 2 INT. Mitchell paycheck has done a great job on the DL with 20 tackles this far this year. I think Boyle's games against big experienced offenses so far this year give them the edge defensively.

 

Final prediction- All signs point to Danville coming up with the win this year with Boyle being vulnerable against speed but Boyle has been at a speed disadvantage for pretty much forever and the last 15 years Boyle has found ways to nullify that speed. They say defense wins championships and games are won in the trenches and that is where Boyle holds its advantages in this matchup. Final Score Boyle County 27-Danville 22.

Good breakdown. I picked Danville on my podcast and voted Boyle County in this poll. No outcome will surprise me and my mind changes everyday. I'm hoping the Rebels pull this one out. They need this win for their psyche. If the Rebels win it will be because they controlled the line of scrimmage like you just said.

I'm with you on being a little wishy-washy on this one. I guess the only outcome that would surprise me would be a blowout either way. I believe Boyle County has won 8 of the last 9.

Danville won 19 straight from 1980 to 1996. Since then Boyle has dominated the series 15-5 I believe. The greatest stretch of parity was 1975 to 1979 when the visiting team won every year and Boyle took 3 out of 5. During the 19 game Admiral streak the years 1981 to 1984 were closely contested but from 1985 til 1995 the games were never close.

Boyle will make it 9 of the last 10 over Danville. I think it'll be close but Boyle will pull away late winning by 10 to 14.
