With the Khsaa website scores are a couple of clicks away. I know there are some without that access but the majority has that.

It's sad news but not surprising. Newspapers don't cover high school sports anything like they used to. I couldn't tell you the last time I looked at an Enquirer for anything. Their online coverage isn't that good either. I check out what I'm interested in on here and other online sources. Thank you for an excellent site Guru.

You can come to BGP and get a score and in most cases get a full game recap from different sources and still discuss a game. That's an advantage newspapers don't have.

I'm a dinosaur like Oldog, just not quite as old and decrepit. I was a fan of the newspaper. Still am. I wish Al had never invented the internet. I always loved rushing out to get the weekend rag and reading about all of the high school and college football games in the fall. The local paper would have a contest and i would run my entry form down to the office before Friday morning. Now I just turn on this damn machine. Still, kudos to those on here who report the scores and summarize the games. You all do a great job.

This dinosaur has read the LexHerald cover to cover everyday for last 30 years. It was my 2nd favorite to the Ky Post. Prior to its' demise I read them both. Enjoyed being informed about many diverse things going on locally and nationally. The internet seems to provide lots of opps to dig deep about any subject, but tends to promote the silo approach rather then creating that cross sectional interest one would stumble into in reading the paper. Probably just me, but I loved my newspapers.

I only read the sports page of newspapers now to see what the coaches had to say about a game. Everything else I get off of here, Twitter or Facebook.

Even though stories can be submitted electronically, and layout and design are much easier, there are two primary issues that are driving earlier deadlines. One, with papers being printed out of town instead of locally, they must come off the presses earlier to account for travel to the final destination. Also, presses are printing multiple papers (ie, Columbus is printing the Dispatch and the Enquirer). Production must be started earlier to account for the running of multiple papers.

 

That is in part true, but it only scratches the surface. The reason papers had to abandon their presses and print at centralized printing plants is because the cost of newsprint (ink/paper/other materials) has gone through the roof, and ad revenues have plummeted. To save money, closing down localized print operations and cutting staff was the only way to keep it afloat.

Maybe it's time for them to sink. What the Courier Journal has become is laughable. Most of it's best journalists have left for other media.

Hasn't been for quite a while. I read the KY Post pretty regularly back when it was going, but that has been quite a while. Even before the changes began taking place, the Enquirer didn't cover sports nearly as good as the Post did.

Well @mcpapa is still around, so not all dinosaurs die out. LOL
