I know VoiceofReason. I just feel like nobody thinks it can be done. Heck I am not even for it. But it could work.

 

I suppose it could be done. Texas is one of the states that receives more for every tax dollar they pay. For every dollar they pay they receive about a buck and a quarter in federal funds. Why give up that deal?

 

They will have to adjust big time, but hey they can do it. Just really really unwise to. If Kentucky did this I would leave in no time. I have lived here all of my 62 yearsand lovw my state, but I have much more invested in America.

With you 100%. If the state I lived in seceded, I would move in a flash to a state still part of the US.

I knew this would be a interesting thread. I dont support a split of the USA, but it befuddles me that alot dont think this could be done. Are you guys telling me that nobody is smart enough to figure this out? How in the world has all the other countries that was once a start up make it? All I have heard in this thread is why it wont work and we cant do it. What if our forefathers had taken that approach when America was an idea that was being tossed about? Most of you would have died Brits. :lol2:

 

No. I don't think it can be done. Way too many people would leave Texas to remain a part of the US. The uncertainty of a stable future in the great country of Texas would be scary for a lot of people. Especially minorities. I have a ton of family in Texas and I don't even have to ask them if they would stick around to live in the land that the most powerful people in the state would take over. I don't think I'll need to explain why.

Any secession talk is nonsense, on several levels. Still, it's amusing to speculate, and I'm happy to play along. If by some miracle the country of Texas would come about, rest assured that voting rights would be curtailed. The model of who could vote in Texas elections would probably approximate the 1800 model: only white men who own land.

Never said it would be easy. But to think that there are not people that can figure this out and have a backbone to do it is laughable in my book. Getting the United States as a country was a hard task that took a long time to do. Unfortunately its taking far less time to destroy it than it did to build it.

 

Think about this, which of you has managed your household to not being in debt? Our country is how much in debt? Everyone says what about this program or that program, this one or that one will have to leave Texas. Think about that for a second. The taxed would not go to the USA , they would all go to Texas. There would be no lets send $$$$$$$$$$$ money to all the countries overseas who are tying to kill us. Think of all the waste that could be saved and spent where it belongs. Oh wait, that would require everyone to work, and you know what I never accounted for that. So the line getting out of Texas would certainly be long as well as the line going in.

 

The responses in this thread shows how dependent on the Government we as a society have become($$$$).I wonder how many people would be ready to fight for America if it were to come to it, or would just lay down. I will tell you this, if you are a cant do this, or we cant do that person, I dont need you on my side.

 

Globalism is what English did not want. They wanted a separate identity. Wanted to control immigration. I do agree that this resembles America now somewhat.

 

One point about the flow of money. You account for the money flowing out of Texas staying. But what about the money from the US government flowing in? That stops. All those military bases. They are now Texas' problem. All those highways, you got them. All the subsidizing programs - they now belong to Texas.

 

As was pointed out earlier, the ties are too tightly knotted now.

Everyone has problems. Biggest problem in the last 25 years is how divided we have become as as a nation. I think we can all agree to that. United We Stand, Divided we Fall. There is a news article out either yesterday or today, but I cant post it because it would cross the Politics line that says one of the candidates(H) says that we must be careful how we handle things going forward in the USA or face the same thing as in regards to Brexit and thats paraphrasing it. Hopefully we as Americans get on the same page soon, but right now we are a split nation politically and thats not good.

But are we anymore divided than we were during the late 60's and early 70's at the height of Vietnam? Or during Civil Rights Struggle?

 

Was the country all that unified during the Civil War and leading up to it? Or even during Reconstruction afterwards?

 

I too am sad because of the division but it's not like we haven't been here before as a nation.

From other states contributions. It's not like State A sends in X to the Feds and gets X back. Some states get more than they put in. My guess is that you will find that Texas gets more money coming from DC than they sent to DC. In fact another poster, Bengal Maniac, mentioned this.
