I hope they do it. Louisiana and New Orleans would explode. Arkansas and Oklahoma would benefit as well. Before long Texas would just end up as Mexico.

Texas ranks in the middle of the pack in terms of dependency on the federal government.

 

And as an aside, who's gonna sew all those 49-star flags? Sounds like a nice cottage industry opportunity.

Anything that would rid us of the Dallas Cowboys is a plus in my book.

 

As to how Brexit might translate to Texit or another US state seceding, the obstacles are much more significant for a US state seceding.

 

The EU is primarily a free trade zone. It is about economic free market with jurisdiction over some political issues also. All the states in the EU still own their own government structures, which are very diverse; their own entitlement programs; their own infrastructure; etc. Think how all those issues and programs are entertwined in the states in the US and you can see how vastly more difficult it would be for a state to exit the US.

 

The trade part of the EU I understand. Delving into politics makes it more of a world government and will be the downfall of the EU. People don't want someone in a different country telling them how to live and what they have to do. It's bad enough a local government has so much control. It goes against a man's nature and freedom.

I knew this would be a interesting thread. I dont support a split of the USA, but it befuddles me that alot dont think this could be done. Are you guys telling me that nobody is smart enough to figure this out? How in the world has all the other countries that was once a start up make it? All I have heard in this thread is why it wont work and we cant do it. What if our forefathers had taken that approach when America was an idea that was being tossed about? Of course anything is possible. But it is at least 3 times easier for the UK to leave the EU than it is for a state to leave the US. Britain still had a lot of autonomy - a lot. Like I said, the EU is a exaggerated trade organization.

 

Look at it this way. There are about 15 cabinet level departments in the US. If Britain has the same, only about 3 of those are significantly affected by being in the EU. The other 12 departments are all under UK control and governance. So Britain now has to restructure three departments. If a state were to secede, they would have to create virtually from the ground up 15 cabinets of bureaucracy. Drastically more difficult.

Never said it would be easy. But to think that there are not people that can figure this out and have a backbone to do it is laughable in my book. Getting the United States as a country was a hard task that took a long time to do. Unfortunately its taking far less time to destroy it than it did to build it.

 

Think about this, which of you has managed your household to not being in debt? Our country is how much in debt? Everyone says what about this program or that program, this one or that one will have to leave Texas. Think about that for a second. The taxed would not go to the USA , they would all go to Texas. There would be no lets send $$$$$$$$$$$ money to all the countries overseas who are tying to kill us. Think of all the waste that could be saved and spent where it belongs. Oh wait, that would require everyone to work, and you know what I never accounted for that. So the line getting out of Texas would certainly be long as well as the line going in.

 

The responses in this thread shows how dependent on the Government we as a society have become($$$$).I wonder how many people would be ready to fight for America if it were to come to it, or would just lay down. I will tell you this, if you are a cant do this, or we cant do that person, I dont need you on my side.

 

Globalism is what English did not want. They wanted a separate identity. Wanted to control immigration. I do agree that this resembles America now somewhat.

I don't care if Texas goes. I really like Austin and Houston isn't too bad. I do hopen that the several friends I have living in Galveston and outside of Fort Worth decided to get out before they close the border, though.

JJ ... I just looked through every Post in this thread and I'm trying to find one that says that it couldn't be done. There is one post in here that says it would be nearly impossible. The rest who are questioning Texas leaving just say there's no way it will happen, not that it couldn't happen. Don't go all Don Quixote on us and start jousting at windmills. You are painting a picture of a different America than the one that I know in some of your comments here.

I believe a better example as oppose to Brexit, would be the autonomous region of Catalonia leaving Spain.
