Longest you've ever been sick

Featured Replies

Title can be a bit misleading. I'm not counting cancer. I started with the flu this past Friday and currently at 80%. This has been only the second time in my life that I can remember being sick to the point of wanting to die for this long, the other time was in 4th grade.

Was curious what is the longest you have been sick at one point in time?

5 days in late 80's. Returned from cruise to Mexico and couldn't get out of bed for 5 days, could've shot me I wouldn't have cared. Never been sick more than one day before or since.

Spent about 2 months sick...doctor ran a gazillion test and couldn't figure it out. Had dizziness, headaches and vomiting.

Mono in 2007. Wiped me out, put me in the hospital and I missed like 2-3 weeks of work.

Stop watching UK football, problem solved. :lol2:

The truth of what happened when we finally figured it out, is even worse than watching UK Football.

Food poisoning in college knocked me down for a little over a week. Lost 20 pounds, missed a week of school, and almost two weeks of baseball. Absolutely horrible. When I hear people tell me they missed a day or two because of food poisoning, I know they just had a stomach bug. You don't want a real case of food poisoning.

Not counting the 15 days I spent at Christ Hospital and Spa with complications with diabetes, I'll go with a couple of weeks in the 10th grade. Got a nasty reaction to an antibiotic. Weight dropped from 135 to 119. Went to school on a Friday after missing 9 days; homeroom teacher took a look and told me I should have stayed home.:lol2:

A liver abscess back in 1993 left me very, very sick. I was in the hospital for nearly 3 weeks, and lost around 60 lbs.

Got a staph infection after knee surgery. Returned to the hospital a week after knee surgery with a 105 fever...almost died. Spent 4 weeks pretty much out of it getting bone scraped and on morphine and intravenous antibiotics. Spent more than 3 months in the hospital on the antibiotics.

Had chicken pox in my early 20s. Was a wreck for about a week. The first 3-5 days I had to change my sheets twice a night from the sweats. Literally put a tarp on my mattress the last couple nights of the sweats.

The only relief were hot oatmeal baths which afforded temporary relief. Yes it's true, the older into adulthood you are if and when one gets the chicken pox IT IS AWFUL. Never have been as miserable as I was that week. The only good thing that happened then was the first pox showed the night before my wife ( then girlfriend ) and I were headed down to Panama City for spring break. If we had gotten there and then it struck. I don't think I would have made it out alive...:lol2:

Bronchitis last winter stuck with me for most of the winter.

Just this past December/Jan, had what the Dr. now believes was a "mono like" virus, which is actually a thing, coupled with a cold on the end of it. There are some virus' out there that mimic mono, have all the same symptoms, but it's not mono. Was sick for about 5 weeks or so. Didn't want to get out of bed...and didn't for 2 or 3 days. Could have slept for hours and hours on end.

The commercial states if you maintain a sickness for more than 6 hours, you should consult a doctor immediately.....oh wait, different commercial.

June 28 (Can't remember the year) I allowed a chest cold to turn in to lung poison and was taken to the hospital on July third.(I had been throwing blood up for a few months but hid it from everyone) I was in the hospital to July 21st. From there I have someone watch me for 30 days. During those thirty days I had to see a lung specialist once a week. Had a relapse of sort and ended up in the hospital for a out patient surgery. From there it took almost two months to get back on my feet and to be cleared to go back to work.
