Longest you've ever been sick

Featured Replies

Just this past December/Jan, had what the Dr. now believes was a "mono like" virus, which is actually a thing, coupled with a cold on the end of it. There are some virus' out there that mimic mono, have all the same symptoms, but it's not mono. Was sick for about 5 weeks or so. Didn't want to get out of bed...and didn't for 2 or 3 days. Could have slept for hours and hours on end.

I had the same thing or sounds like it for about a month although I worked all but one day. I would fall asleep anywhere. Finally, my boss said you really don't need to come back until you can stay awake, I thought I was awake.

Food poisoning in college knocked me down for a little over a week. Lost 20 pounds, missed a week of school, and almost two weeks of baseball. Absolutely horrible. When I hear people tell me they missed a day or two because of food poisoning, I know they just had a stomach bug. You don't want a real case of food poisoning.

The absolute worst sickness I've ever had. I also was down for a over a week. It hit me on a Monday night immediately after eating a bad hot dog, and it put me off work the entire week. I wasn't back to normal until late that following week. I now throw everything away that hits its expiration or sell by date. If I order something that should be cold and it's warm, it goes straight in the garbage.

As far as length of sickness, I've been fighting a cold for over 3 weeks now that I cannot shake. However, I'll take this over food poisoning every day of the week.

At first I thought it was the flu, got tested, negative. Few days later knowing that mono was going around the county and working with a bunch of kids the way I do, I thought it might be that. Got tested, and it was negative. Well I knew it wasn't just in my head, I had something and felt like complete crap. Couple of weeks later as I was starting to shake it off I had my work physical. Dr. there told me then there are some viruses that are referred to as "mono like", and that's probably what I had. They feel like mono, symptoms are very similar, but it isn't mono and won't test positive on a mono test.

Food poisoning takes me back.

Went to a church picnic on a Sunday and ate a handful of chicken salad sandwiches that had been sitting out much of the day. Got violently sick with food poisoning.

Next day was the last day of school - a 1/2 day awards assembly. My best friend had to pick up my perfect attendance award because I was home sick.

Same thing got tested for the flu negative, also. never did find out what it was, but I believe it sounds exactly like what you described. Weirdest thing. In fact, my wife and kids still think I had mono.

Pneumonia caused both lungs to collapse when I was 3. I was in the hospital for 3 months and near death for awhile. All I remember is riding around on a gurney eating popsicles. 3 scars on my chest from the tubes they stuck in me are still there.

Had my aortic valve start to shut down when I was 5-6. Was in the hospital roughly 2 weeks leading up to and post-surgery.

Mono in 08. Missed 11 days of work.

Mono in 2007. Wiped me out, put me in the hospital and I missed like 2-3 weeks of work.

Mono for me as well. I wasn't right for 2 weeks. Not fun at all.

I had mono for a month and change back when I was a sophomore in HS. Missed one day of school because I had an ear infection at the same time. I felt cheated.

This one right here...courtesy of Hardee's in Maysville.

I have thought about this, and really not that long. Not sure if it is being in good shape, solid diet, or what, but the most I've ever been "sick" was this past February when I caught a flu bug for 3 days. I woke up on Thursday morning and didn't feel well. Went to work for 4 hours, puked, and got home to lay in bed for a 2.5 more days. I was at spin class on Sunday. While I was sick I started thinking back to the last time I ever missed any significant time. The last I could remember was my Sophomore year of high school when I missed 3 days with a bug going around the student body. This past February was the first time I have ever missed work due to illness (sans a sinus infection or two when I would leave work early to run by the clinic).
