The only issue I see with this adjustment is the fact the KHSAA is knowingly allowing 6 schools with 5A enrollment to compete in 4A. I am not sure how this situation is different.

 

There are 5 schools that have a 4A population playing in 5A

Nelson County - 448 4yr Avg

Perry County - 478

Letcher County - 484

Highlands - 488

Harlan County - 545

 

5A population starts at 557 thru 708

 

South Warren is listed at 555.75 4 yr avg. however their Avg last two yrs is 567

West Jessamine is clearly an example of a 5A school play down in 4A

599 (4 year avg) with last two year Avg at 618. Not sure why they are not in the discussion?

Additionally, and more than anything, it is the timing of moving South Warren up. They win a state championship and BOOM!

Lincoln County played in AAA in 2003-04 and then moved up to AAAA in 2005-06 because of a spike in enrollment.

, only two schools fit the criteria to be placed into a different class, and the Board unanimously approved the movement of Moore HS to Class 4A, District 3 and South Warren HS to Class 5A, District 2 beginning with the 2017 season. In addition, the Board approved the placement of the new Fayette County HS in Class 6A, District 7 and Floyd Central HS in Class 3A, District 6 effective with the 2017 playing season.

And that's the problem. West Jessamine isn't having success so no one is complaining that they are way to big to be playing in 4A. SW has had success the last 3-4 years and that is all you have heard. If SW was going 5-5 or 4-7 you wouldn't hear a word.

This is not a true. When teams elected to move up in class or accepted the KHSAA's offer to move down in class, they were told it was for all 4 years of the alignment. The 2 year adjustment period did not apply to West Jessamine or any of the other schools that elected to play down in class.

It'll be a hard pill to swallow if they continue to not win after that time. Isn't John Hardin about to turn up the heat?

 

John Hardin's best year for the foreseeable future is 2016. They'll be a force in 2017, and then after that. Their enrollment over the years has dropped like crazy (going to 4A says that). Their entire freshmen class this year is somewhere around 175-180, and next years is expected to be the same if not less. It's not the John Hardin of old with 1200-1400 kids.

 

Their best shot to win it is next year.
