Ashland Middle School forfeited their state playoff game against Belfry this year. I understand parents were not happy.

With all due respect, there is a big difference from middle school and high school football. Has no weight in this discussion. Anyone who thinks so is foolish.

Mid course adjustments are always in the handbook, but it's been awhile since they completed it. I think I recall Lincoln County moving up to AAAA between '05 and '06. Doesn't happen much.

 

I suspect the large number swing may have something to do with using four-year data instead of two.

 

If most schools have 2-year home-and-away contracts with their opponents, wouldn't it be easier just to realign every 2 years and use the last 2-year enrollment figures? It would level the playing field quicker as far as the new schools who grow rapidly are concerned.

I would be interested to see how they realign the districts. I'm not sure they would stick Ashland and Belfry in the same district.

 

I wasn't necessarily talking about being in the same district. Just stating that they would have to go through them in the playoffs.

"South Warren’s stay in Class 4A looks like it’ll be a short one.

 

The KHSAA Board of Control will vote Thursday on a recommendation to move the Spartans from Class 4A to 5A starting in the 2017 season, multiple sources told the Daily News on Tuesday. Those sources said they expect the measure to pass.

 

Redistricting is usually done every four years, and South was moved up from Class 3A to 4A for the 2015 season.

 

However the KHSAA has the right to make a two-year adjustment “based on significant changes in enrollment.”

This doesn't sound right to me DF. I know it is in the article but it doesn't make sense to me that all of the sudden on Thursday the Board of Control is going to vote on South Warren individually.

The agenda you posted from, is that taking place on Thursday? My interpretation is less that they're voting on South Warren individually and more that they're voting on alignment changes - of which South Warren moving is a part.

I was told tonight that some of the names on the list were mentioned by mistake, they weren't changing.

I think the newspaper needs to go back to their source and get a little more detail if at all possible.

It does when those responsible for making said decision are in charge at the High School.

The Enrollment Order document shows the order of schools by 4 year enrollment size. If you count to 32 from the top, that is supposed to be 1A. If you count up 32 from the bottom, that is supposed to be 6A. 2A - 5A are the rest of the schools split up relatively evenly. The UP/DOWN in the right column simply designates the schools that are currently playing out of class per the newest enrollment numbers.

Builder's comment is inaccurate. The ProjCl (Projected Class?) column only has 30 teams listed with 1. Beechwood and Crittenden County are still 1A schools by enrollment if you go by the 32 smallest. That makes me think the DL-C column that has the UP and DOWN designations may have something to do with requested class levels by the schools. Or, perhaps is stands for Direction Level - Class, meaning the direction that school is headed purely by enrollment numbers.

I am not saying requested the last time. I am saying requested going forward. However, after thinking about it some more, I am more inclined to believe the last sentence in my quoted post above is more likely what that column means.
