I think it is good for KY football when you have teams from the Bowling Green area that are powers in their respective classes.

 

Franklin-Simpson has been developing quite well at the lower levels and I believe would have potentially been able to play their way to the state final, though I think Shelby County would have had far more success against a team that doesn't eliminate the run. Two of the teams in South Warren's district have made state finals since the move to six classes (including Franklin), and another has made the state semifinals twice, just barely missing out on adding themselves to that list.

 

Plus, win, lose, or draw, South Warren will find themselves in 5A in the next alignment, provided they don't play up to 6A. In which case we won't have the additional flagship anyway. Franklin may or may not be able to get past John Hardin, but if South Warren is moved up midstream, I think Franklin-Simpson will have a shot in the state semis twice.

Never in a thousand years do I believe South Warren would play up to 6A, just saying, that would be the only way they won't be 5A. I did have someone transiently attached to the program say they wouldn't be surprised if they did that, but I don't think that anyone who is in any position to make that decision would do that.

Corbin is just starting to get use to 3A and now may be headed to 4A. It looks like Rockcastle and Corbin would basically switch places.

Guru--Curious where you saw this...looked on the "news" at khsaa.org but can't see anything football-related since November 2015.

 

Am very interested in whether they'll go back to changing the 6A playoff matchups like previous to this year. I'd assumed they were sticking to same set up as other classes but another coach told me he was sure that was a one-year thing.

Would it even be possible for the KHSAA to implement these changes for the 2016 season? With a lot of schools likely finalizing their 2016 schedules at this point it seems like this could really throw a wrench into some schools scheduling abilities.

Interesting, Ashland would have to compete with Belfry in 3A instead of Johnson Central, which would move from 4A to 5A

 

I would be interested to see how they realign the districts. I'm not sure they would stick Ashland and Belfry in the same district.

"South Warren’s stay in Class 4A looks like it’ll be a short one.

 

The KHSAA Board of Control will vote Thursday on a recommendation to move the Spartans from Class 4A to 5A starting in the 2017 season, multiple sources told the Daily News on Tuesday. Those sources said they expect the measure to pass.

 

Redistricting is usually done every four years, and South was moved up from Class 3A to 4A for the 2015 season.

 

However the KHSAA has the right to make a two-year adjustment “based on significant changes in enrollment.”

I missed that. Did Mr. Tackett tell them when they would be able to attempt to fill their schedules? This whole thing sounds like a potential disaster to me if they try to make these changes for the 2016 season. I could see a lot of schools playing a short schedule. Johnson Central imo would be placed into more of a scheduling nightmare than they already are.

Thanks, that should be much more manageable for most schools. If I were a JC fan I would still be concerned where that school lands in redistricting though. To my knowledge there are not any large schools that would fall into the 5A class near them.

Mid course adjustments are always in the handbook, but it's been awhile since they completed it. I think I recall Lincoln County moving up to AAAA between '05 and '06. Doesn't happen much.

 

I suspect the large number swing may have something to do with using four-year data instead of two.
