LSU's Ben Simmons, who does he best compare to?

Featured Replies

Poor man's LeBron James, at the same age. I wish I could have seen LeBron in college because I think he would have been a monster on the interior like Simmons. Once Simmons' game evolves in the NBA I see him being more Chris Bosh like.

A very young Lamar Odom, when he was under the stud Jim Harrick at Rhode Island.

I don't get the " he can't shoot"'comments.

He's shooting almost 58% from the field and 78% from the charity stripe. He's only attempted three 3 Point FG all year, making 1. That certainly doesn't scream "can't shoot". To me that's like saying Ulis can't rebound.

More lazy narrative my friend. Running wild these days.

Your first number means nothing. He lives under the basket. Dwight Howard, Shaq and Tyson Chandler are three of the best shooters by % in NBA history, but I don't trust them outside of 5 feet.

And no, I am not saying Simmons can't shoot. He is better than any of the aforementioned. His game is just parked underneath the basket at this time, kind of how KAT was last year, so I think that is why the narrative exists. In college you exploit your advantages, which Simmons is doing.

A nice piece ESPN did on him this morning. He scored 36 against Vandy but didn't press, probably could of put a 50 spot if he wanted to.

I like his demeanor.

Actually he's driving to the basket, I can't believe they don't post him up more than they do. He's just able to beat people off of the dribble and score over them in college. I've watched him a couple of times and he is IMO, Elite Special.
When people start calling the greatest this or that I think it should be pointed out. That's a pretty big hole in your game. Other people have changed and or developed a shot. Some have not.

I agree that not being a good shooter is a BIG hole. It is pretty rare for a guy who is not a good shooter to become a good shooter. A guy can only improve so much IMO. A lot of being a good shooter is God given IMO...

LeBron James. I dont understand the Durant comparison.

WOW. Seeing him finish off the Wildcats I know this guy's the real deal. :(

But as strange as this sounds he looks to me to have some elements of both Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin's games. Crazy good athlete.

Well yeah that's true but Davis is a once every 5-10 years type of player. But he wasn't exactly out there with a bunch of mid-major players. Jones and MKG are both very productive in the NBA. And Lamb, Teague and Miller are all pros, just not necessarily NBA pros.

I love AD, but I don't think AD could put the ball on the floor and take people off of the dribble the way Simmons does. AD was a better Shot Blocker but BS is as good or better passer and as good of a rebounder.

I don't think people realize how much more dominant Davis could have truly been in college if Cal allowed him too. They could have let Davis be outside more and take people off dribble and hit pull up jump shots because he was very capable of doing that. That year with UK though they didn't need him to be, they needed him to be a down low player and do all the little things to dominate a game. There is much more to his game be could have shown. Simmons does get to show his whole game right now.

Simmons is very good, but I think Davis was still the better college player because he could have easily put up the numbers Simmons has if Davis was allowed as much freedom to do that as Simmons has.

As someone else said earlier I don't see any Durant comparison.

I still say his outside shot is subpar.

His passing is way better than I imagined.

I think you have to include Penny Hardaway in the comparison mix due to size and ball handling/passing.

Unique player. If he get a jump shot.....

6-10 with a handle. Ain't many of those guys around.

I love Anthony Davis but I'm not sold that this LSU team would be better off with college AD than college Ben Simmons. I think Simmons has to do more for his team to be successful than AD had to do for UK to be successful. AD had way more help. That can't be denied.
