January 6, 201610 yr I love Anthony Davis but I'm not sold that this LSU team would be better off with college AD than college Ben Simmons. I think Simmons has to do more for his team to be successful than AD had to do for UK to be successful. AD had way more help. That can't be denied. That definitely can't be denied. However I don't think it can be denied that UK didn't ask or need AD to completely open up his game. AD would have been very capable of playing outside more too. However UK didn't need him too, just like UK didn't need him to be the leading scorer. I don't think people realize how much more dominant Davis could have been if coach Cal would have gave him as much freedom as Simmons has. However UK didn't need Davis to do all that. There was a lot more to Davis's game that he didn't even have to try to show while in college.
January 6, 201610 yr Davis was great offensively, but his impact was most felt defensively. It was a nightmare for teams entering within 10 feet of the rim.

He isn't the best shooter in the world but can score in bunches, and on top of that he is an outstanding passer and great rebounder. Then is able to guard any position on the floor. Best player since Lebron James in my opinion. Davis is probably 3rd behind LBJ and BS.

I don't think Simmons could defend a guard like Westbrook type guard in the NBA, but I think he could guard most guards in the league just with his athleticism alone. I didn't say he is Lebron, but I would say he is the closest thing to Lebron we've seen.

That helps drive my point home that Simmons is a better college player than Davis. I'm not basing my choice on speculation. I'm basing it on what we see while they are in college. Saying college AD is better than college Simmons because AD could have been dominant if he had Simmons' freedom is the same as saying Rondo could have been a better college player than D'Angelo Russell if Tubby would have given him freedom. We'll never know because it didn't go down like that and all we can use as proof is what we saw. Not what we think would have seen.

I do not think he could have created and played a Point Forward as Simmons can do.
