Track the Reds (Second Half)

Featured Replies

Looks like the Fish have decided that this is the series they act like a young team. 5-2 Cards in the 9th...

Frankly that's good news, with no games against the Cards left on the docket, the Division race is fait accompli.

Tick-tock

SAN DIEGO -- Just had a very brief conversation with Wayne Krivsky. He and his staff remain in their offices at GABP.

"We're still working," he said.

God only knows what they might come up with in the final two hours, 15 minutes before the deadline, but they'll probably push it right to the end.

As for what we do know -- though Krivsky wouldn't even confirm this insignificant and unsurprising set of moves -- the Reds will activate Gary Majewski and Jason Standridge from the DL tomorrow and recall Brian Shackelford for his fifth stint with the big club this year. The three are en route to San Diego.

That's all I've got for now. But it ain't over 'til it's over.

SAN DIEGO -- The Reds are trying to relax and ease some stress on their off day in the midst of a long and devastating losing streak.

The team gathered at a hotel together to play some MVP Baseball. Most of the team gathered around a big screen TV to watch the undisputed video game champion, Adam Dunn, play.

Ironically, the video Reds played the video Padres in a preview of their upcoming series. The game was going well until Reds starting pitcher Eric Milton gave up a solo home run to Brian Giles, followed by an error by shortstop Royce Clayton, and a double by Mike Piazza to put the Reds in their usual 2-0 hole. Why video Narron doesn't start Castro or Aurillia at short, no one knows.

After the video Reds continually missed chances to score with men on base, Ryan Franklin came in and immediately gave up 4 runs. At this point, a frustrated Dunn slammed the controller down and shut off the game as a stunned and somber Reds team looked on.

"It's obvious we can't even win a video game right now," said veteran infielder Rich Aurillia.

Dunn even came back after everyone left and put the game on beginner level. He still went 0-4 with 2 K's, leaving 5 men on base.

However, on Friday morning the team just laughed at the events the night before and found themselves very relaxed. That night they put 12 runs on the board, beating the Padres 12-3.

Ok, I made that up. I'm feeling very creative tonight. Let's brush this streak off and come out a different team tomorrow!

As average as average gets?

Jerry Narron has managed 227 games with the Reds.

His record going into Friday's game:

113 wins

113 losses

1 tie

Clever, but there is no such thing as MVP Baseball anymore. It's only ESPN 2K6. :D

113-113-1 is a VAST improvement from where they were. That would only be "average" if we were in Boston, The Bronx, St. Louis, Houston, or Anaheim. In The 'Nati, that is vast improvement.

There's also [MLB: The Show.] It's a very good game. :thumb:

Managers get the blame when teams lose and too much praise, when teams win. Narron may not be liked by some/many fans but this team, is playing very close to what they would be, under most anyone else.

There are a lot of glaring weaknesses, new players and veteran players, no starting pitching, etc.... They have several role players, doing exceptional jobs and others, lacking.

The Reds to me, are missing an identity....They have became known as a "the team which hits HR's and no pitching". Harang pitches, you feel like a win is possible anytime, others pitch...more of hoping they can. A lot of fans don't enjoy Dunn, Griffey for what they do provide, but watch rather to criticize.

Making out a lineup, overseeing ego's, deciding what relief pitcher to bring in the 3rd inning, attempting to jell 30 new players since the season started, is an extreme challenge for any manager....I for one, think Narron has done a very good job, overall.

OK, I rarely listen to talk radio but I did this morning. It reminded me why I don't. One of the "Ridiculous Guys" said that Homer Bailey dominated AA, which is true. He then said, "Harang wouldn't dominate like that, shoot Roger Clemens wouldn't dominate like that."

That show should've been taken off the air immediately after that sentence.

Do people really think AA hitters are equivalent to hitters in the show? I'd say at least 6 of 9 batters in AA ball are still learning how to hit professional pitching. The other three are guys that may hit in the bottom of a MLB lineup. Every once in a while you get a guy that mashes but he won't be down there long.

...I agree, switch the radio station and quit listening to Bob and Tom...:D

No chatter about the Reds tonight?

Reds up early and how long has it been since a Reds fan could say that.

2-0, in the second.

Looks like they day off might just get this offense going....Lets hope anyway.
