My rating for Stoops at U.K. would be around an 8.

People have to remember where U.K. football was when he got here. Building, or trying to build a team at U.K, is and will be an extremely long process. U.K. still is not close to having any depth, that takes years and years to build.

Our fan base has no patience. I remember everyone calling for Brooks head but Barnhart kept him around another year and then voila bowl games 3 straight seasons.

 

Brookes took over in an awful situation after Mumme, which afforded him more time.

Joker's SEC was the best the best conference has ever been with a streak of national championships and one year where the champ and the runner-up was from the SEC.

 

I as a fan am impatient because I have been fed "Why not?" Garbage for 3 seasons now. We want to see progress: Not mirrored seasons of mediocrity or even decline.

 

2 is my answer. If Stoops runs the table and wins a bowl, I'll come back in and change to 7 or 8 depending, but over the past 4 weeks this staff or team show no inclination of the ability to do any of that.

 

Lose to Vandy next week and the stadium will be a ghost town vs Charlotte. Barnhart may need to get a call out to Luke Bryan to play at halftime.

Very few on here understand how bad it was when Stoops took over. I watched spring practice in year one and was amazed at the lack of talent. The facilities were middle of the pack MAC level and the whole vibe inside the program had no energy. They have got better every year from that first one but they are not there yet with being competitive in every SEC game. This is a minimum 5 to 6 year building process to be competitive consistently.

For some reason I still feel like there is a coaching curve going on with him and his staff. I do agree that he has improved the "brand" but not the results. I think he is being stubborn about a special teams coach and some of his (or Shannon Dawsons) decisions have to be questioned during the game.

 

I really dont understand the Shannon Dawson. What has he brought to the table? He is definitely not out-scheming the opponents and definitely does not have a high powered offensive mind. That hire is looking like a big bust.

 

Stoops has to hire a special teams coach at least to save face for the very poor special teams play. Also the fact that he hasnt recruited a kid other than McGinnis that can kick it in the end zone is perplexing. Just go grab a kid from the soccer team for heavens sake.

I do think they need to add that threat.

I would give him a 6. Yeah, fans can say he should beat UF, UGA, and AU, but it's not like there's a long list of UK coaches who have done that. Have to look at the whole picture and he has improved the overall program, but it still takes time. He has a young team who is trying to figure it all out. It took Rich Brooks awhile to get the program to a competitive level week in and week out.

Throw me in with the folks who said 6. The team is in a spot to continue to improve each year. That's what we want right? Rich Brooks left the program in a spot to improve yearly and Joker ruined it. Stoops has gotten the program back to a respectable spot with a chance for the program to get better. Patience.

I can't believe people think Tennessee and UK were in the same spots at one time. That's hilarious.

 

5-7 at UK is damn near welcomed. 5-7 at UT will get you fired.

I am a 6.....I agree patience is the key. However, I always look for something to hang my hat on. Right now, the only thing I can find is the recruiting upgrades. I really hope the next 3 weeks bring encouragement.

The issue here is how everyone will measure success. First I would say many of us have no clue how bad thing could have been when he arrived.

1. Facilities - not top SEC

2. recruiting - not SEC

3. play - not sec

4. Player development

5. Quality Depth

 

There are many more to consider other than wins and losses. Stoops deserves 5 full seasons before you can say he isn't successful. The program has been upgraded.

Joker had a respectable team his first year and tore it to shreds throughout his tenure. Stoops is going in the opposite direction. Had a trash team his first year, now year 3 it's starting to become respectable again.

If they make a bowl 5 or 6, if not 3, if they get swept- bye-bye.
