Switzerland has a comprehensive gun-control regime that is governed by federal law and implemented by the cantons. Yeah, that doesn't sound too bad to me, compared to what we have now. I mean, I know that Switzerland was brought up by the gun lovers as an example of a gun paradise where "all males are required to have guns," but that is just another common example of right wing misinformation.

 

Looks to me like they have universal militia age 19 to 35 and the militia is issued a firearm. Beyond that, no requirement that "all males are required to have guns" Morever, they ban certain types of weapons, have checks for sales, and a test to pass if you want to carry one.

 

As an aside, it would be AWESOME to watch all the paranoid freak Obama haters heads' explode if Obama said we were going to make a national militia and give everyone a gun.

So you're OK with all males in America receiving a gun from ages 19-35? That doesn't seem to fit your agenda. You yourself seem to fall into the category to call the state or city to protect you, rather than having arms on site.

As I said in a previous post, I only have one firearm, a shotgun. I don't use it for defense though, any burglar would have to call me ten minutes ahead of time for me to employ it. I use locked doors and windows, my dogs, security system and an aluminum bat. I readily admit that I would call the police for protection as well. Now, since you started it, you yourself seem to fall in the category of someone who just loves to polish his guns, dreaming of the chance to go Clint Eastwood on someone, only to pee in his pants and drop his gun due to shaky hands if it ever came to it. But then again, I don't know you, so that ain't fair to say. Neither was what you said either.

First of all, I'm very glad to hear you own a firearm, I'm also surprised. I would encourage you to learn how to use it in a defensive situation though, if you have dogs and an alarm you should have plenty of time to deploy it. Our key difference is I'm willing and have the training to do, what those who you call on to do do for you. That is fine I understand, you certainly aren't the only person in this category, there are millions of sheep upon us. However, we all don't subscribe to the state, city, county, or govt to protect us ideology. It is a disservice however, to try to take away guns from those who are trying to protect ourselves and our families.

 

Also, I'm not sure if you're aware or not but the police don't always have a legal duty to protect you as in individual.

Straightforward? Hardly. The Second Amendment is a word jumble.

First of all, I'm very glad to hear you own a firearm, I'm also surprised. I would encourage you to learn how to use it in a defensive situation though, if you have dogs and an alarm you should have plenty of time to deploy it. Our key difference is I'm willing and have the training to do, what those who you call on to do do for you. That is fine I understand, you certainly aren't the only person in this category, there are millions of sheep upon us. However, we all don't subscribe to the state, city, county, or govt to protect us ideology. You have reading comprehension issues. First, it was you guys who proposed going to a Switzerland system, I merely said "sounds good." I can't help it if your side proposed it without understanding it. In the future, you guys get together beforehand and refrain from proposing something that you wouldn't support. Will lessen the appearance of ignorance.

Second, I never said I was a sheep. Ever see a sheep carry a baseball bat?

Third, it is possible to defend one's home AND call the police. Doesn't have to be either or. It works like this: my wife wakes me and says the dogs are barking, I grab the bat and go out, and if she hears a "thud" she calls 911. It is possible to do both.

Fourth, I know how to use my shotgun, I choose not to, I have children and grandchildren around, so it is securely stowed, but that makes it unlikely to come into play. Also, if one of my kids back home late at night, I can't accidentally shoot them as a mistaken intruder. Since you in good spirit suggested I train to use my firearm, I will in good spirit suggest you review figures of some of the dangers associated with them.

Fifth, I dont want to take away the guns you think you will protect your family with any more than I need you to suggest that I am a sheep or that I should protect my family a different way. Your thinking on this says more about you than it does me.

Sixth, My interest is in reducing gun violence, and most urgently, the mass shootings. If you can't even consider ideas that might do that, at some minor inconvenience to yourself, then again, it says more about you than me. Your efforts to cast it as anything else are not part of an honest discussion.

Finally, the whole tenor of many of your posts is simply you think you have all the answers. Anyone who thinks or does anything differently is a sheep, or whatever insult you have hurled my way. Get over yourself. You aren't the only person in the world. Other people have good ideas too. If you are married, or ever have been, my sympathies to your wife.

Why are you not more interested in reducing the gun deaths in the city of Chicago?

 

More deaths occur there in a weekend than in most mass shootings which are few and far between comparatively.

 

All are senseless. Again, the gun isn't the problem, it's the person using the gun that's the problem.
