What loop holes. I always ask because the word is thrown around a lot and most peiple don't seem to know what loop holes they are discussing.

Yes, if a gun is from a private collection then there is no 4473 required. I go to the show here in town every once in a while and I've seen one time when a guy had a sign like that. It was for 3 or 4 out of about 50 guns he had for sale. Sales like that are also the ones that the ATF will target during sting operations at Gun Shows, just to verify everything is legit. There is a precise paper trail on each gun sold by a licensed dealer, even if he moves some guns to his private collection he would have had to have done that in his log before selling it.

 

Private sales between people are not regulated. If I sell you a shotgun there is no process available to me to even complete a background check or get NICS approval even if I wanted to. I know several people that would feel better if that was available to do. We keep records of any gun we sell, but or trade personally...for our own protection in case something ever was to happen with a gun.

 

But yes Private sales are one loophole. I'm not sure how it could be close in a way that I personally would be agreeable with.

 

There have been multiple studies that show this private sale loophole is quite large, but large or small, no reason not to close it.

I've sold guns from my collection. I've made sure to list who they went to and they only went to folks I know. For new guns, I'm OK with a background check.

I don't believe most of those who commit acts of violence are mentally ill. I'm of the opinion that with the exception of a select few, most are just evil. You don't have to be mentally ill to be a black soul. We want to say they are mentally ill, bit really, they are as rational as the rest of us, they just have no regard for human life. It's not just gun violence...it's domestic violence, it's abuse of animals, and it's sometimes just general belligerence.

 

We can blame drugs, guns, bad parents, mental illness....but in the end, it comes down to the fact that there have always been, and will always be, seriously bad people in the world.

 

I know we don't see eye-to-eye on the gun issue in general, but sister you said a mouthful of truth there! I have said similar myself...pure evil exists and one doesn't have to be "mentally deficient" for it to exist...I think it many times is that they just don't care and don't give a flip about anybody or anything else. Now some may say that's a mental issue, but I would say it's not.

This may be a reasonable thought, but from a practical perspective is not readily available. There is not master database for every criminal offense . Part of the background process many times involves a paper review (think small town).

 

As for always removing the civil right of gun ownership for convicted felons, I do not agree with this either. Many people make poor decisions as a young "adult" (18 -19) that are not necessarily a reflection on who they are as an adult. HB 70 in Kentucky works toward that end to restore voting rights, but there is a definite dug in stance on gun ownership.

 

In principle I truly understand, from a practical perspective we have all done things in the past that shape our future, few of us have made those negative choices at age 18 and have it reflect who we are later in life.

Here is the problem, President Obama and most Democrats have come out and said they like the model that England and Australia has implemented.

Registration leads to confiscation, but here is the kicker. There is 300 million firearms in this country, they think that they can round them all up but they cannot deport all 11 million illegals?
