Do you think you could complete an NFL pass?

Featured Replies

I got to thinking about this yesterday. Would I be able to complete 1 NFL pass? I don't believe I could.

There have to be some stipulations. You can't take a pass out of shotgun and toss it forward behind the LOS. No screen passes. Let's say you have to hit a receiver at least 5 yards down the field (ball would be traveling at least 10-15 yards once you consider a drop back), and we are talking a real completion. Not a jump ball where the WR makes the play.

If I couldn't complete a bubble screen, well, I should turn in my man card.

It is, so is a shovel pass. Easy stuff. The days of me being able to have enough juice to get a WR screen even out there in time are over.

Guessing you didn't actually read the 1st post of the thread...:lol2: ;)

OK, then I'd bet my house I could complete a slant. If I was upright and clean in a pocket I have no doubt. But I don't look like skinny legs Peyton Manning either, so...

I'm fairly shocked at these responses. In this hypothetical, the parameters are a big deal. Of course, the probability of me completing my first attempt is low, but assuming I have a good or better line, the called play doesn't have my receivers running too far downfield, I get to keep trying, and I survive the inevitable QB hits I would take, I think it could be done. If I woke up tomorrow and had to be a professional QB on Sunday, I would probably get injured a play or two in, but ignoring that and letting me keep trying after an interception, if the goal was to complete one pass, I think I could complete a slant.

I like the comparison to hitting a major league pitcher. Of course I would swing and miss the vast majority of the time. Of course I would almost certainly look like a fool the first few times at least, but just making contact without bunting is quite a bit different than attempting to drive the ball. (Disclaimer: I could have 100 at bats against Chapman and if the line was set at 0.5 balls in play, I would take the under).

I'm with you. I'm really surprised at how many people don't think they could complete a pass. So far I think I have only counted 4 people who have responded that said they could. I think we stumbled into a girl scout jamboree.

How many tries are we talking? Until we are physically unable? I think the ones who said yes would have a hard time in a 7-7 scrimmage, if given four downs.

Arm strength wouldn't be an issue, processing and thecDL height/rush would be. Then add in the DB closing speed and it would be a pick.

I think arm strength would be a major issue because defenses react so quickly. If you don't put enough zip on a pass, the DB will have time to react and make a play on the ball.

I don't think I could in part because I can't throw an NFL ball well. There are way to many factors and honestly unless you've been in a pocket it's really hard to fully appreciate what it's like. It's like standing in the middle of traffic and that's even with a good OL. I might be able to complete Y stick and if the defense laid off a now/smoke throw (the WR takes one step up field and turns).

Quick game the ball needs to be out in something like 1.3 sec. On a 5 step I think it's around 3.

On the height issue Drew Brees is like 5' 11". There are short QBs but release and finding Windows is huge.

On the flip side, there is less than 0% chance I catch a pass from an NFL QB in a game if it has to be completed 5 yards down the field. I would never be able to get away from a DB and even if ball came close, I think it would be coming to hard/fast for me. Better chance I break a finger.

If I'm at qb going to my old reliable. Quick kick on two. Break!

After watching Manning some more today. No doubt in my mind I'm faster than the old fart.
