July 31, 201511 yr Leake should prosper in AT&T. Big ballpark is much better for his skillset of throwing strikes and giving up the occasional long ball. What are prohibitions, if any, against Reds making a run at signing Leake as a FA for 2016? If none, you basically got the SF Giants' #1 pitching prospect and a Louisville (HS & UofL) kid w/ some pop for 11 starts in a season where you aren't going anywhere anyway. Once he's a FA, he's fair game for any team to attempt to sign.
July 31, 201511 yr Who do you want to be there #1 pitcher for the 2016 year? Because it wasn't going to be Cueto. Cueto Spend the money period. You want to see GABP look like a Marlins game? Just watch the stands once school starts
July 31, 201511 yr If Leake leaves as FA, would the Reds get compensatory pick? Cueto Spend the money period. You want to see GABP look like a Marlins game? Just watch the stands once school starts Based on this comment, what you want is an owner of the Reds who is willing to lose millions of dollars every year
July 31, 201511 yr Cueto Spend the money period. You want to see GABP look like a Marlins game? Just watch the stands once school starts They don't have the money! How can they spend it?
July 31, 201511 yr Cueto Spend the money period. You want to see GABP look like a Marlins game? Just watch the stands once school starts Being the only member that publically states they make money from the Reds attendance, I firmly believe that signing Cueto to the contract he's worth was the best way of ensuring the fan attendance got closer to the Marlins over the length of his and Votto's contract. Not trading him. I'll look at the bigger picture here. You are looking at the smaller.
July 31, 201511 yr The SF pitching coach is a guru, Crick and Beede were the top guns preseason I think they are probably happy keeping them. Reds still got a good piece who may have passed them.

Only a pennant race helps and that doesn't get the school kids in the seats on a school night. I was there last night and the announced crowd was 35k +. I can guarantee you that there weren't half that many there. The split the pot amount was - $5k. That's usually a good indicator of the actual crowd in attendance than the announced tickets sold number. The Red's have benefited greatly by packages geared around the All-star game festivities but of course they get no concession from empty seats.

My comment was not really about Cueto but more to the FACT that this team can't win by getting rid of its best pitchers period. We we got rent a players in return, guess what? If any of them pan out to be stud pitchers they won't be here past their current contracts once they sign with the Reds. Guess what that means? We will be in the exact same situation that we are in now. Why? Because the Reds won't be able to afford to keep them!!!!!!!! It's a waste of time to hope a miracle happens and all of a sudden the prospects become All Star caliber players in the next 2 years to only get back to where you are right now. That at is my point. Anyone want to guess why the Reds haven't won anything in 25 years? It's because "they can't afford to re-sign their best players"

The Reds had a 4 year window to win it and should have. A team like the Reds can't resign every player that is worth over 100 mil. Heck most teams only have 1 or 2. The Reds missed their window to win another one. These trades that have happened and that will continue to happen will open another window 2-3 years down the road. Only a handful of teams can spend their way to the top

Oh wait, Red's payroll was higher
July 31, 201511 yr Like St. Louis? Oh wait, Red's payroll was higher And that was a problem the Reds have addressed a bit in this trade window. Trying to get the payroll down a bit and get younger cheaper and potentially really good players. The over spending caught up to them the past 2 years. That's why this had to happen. Not that hard to understand

August 1, 201511 yr Also if the Reds have managed contracts as they have with their players, minus Bailey, Votto, and Phillips. They are in awesome shape. They've had a good history of doing really good deals and buying out some FA years. So these players they got could be here 6 years or so.
