Some of stuff on here would make it seem like Barker is the next big thing in college football. For people like me who saw him play, he ain't throwing against Boone County this year.

Maybe I'm misreading your post but Pat only has 2 years on Drew. He's starting into his 4th year while Drew is starting into his second.

 

Yes he has a year of starting experience and is in his 4th year of college, just Barker is in his 2nd.

Im not really convinced Towles regressed over the second half of the season. Did his numbers struggle? Yeah, but compare the first half of the schedule to the second half of the schedule and that is all the explanation needed. Would Barker have done any better last year? It is impossible to tell, but i have my doubts. What Towles did gain over the second half of the year last year was experience against top notch defenses. That alone puts him ahead of Barker at this point.

 

Very true and you would think that experience would have made it easy for him to look better in practice and lock the starting spot up a long time ago. So my question what is going on in practice for why he can't pull away enough to show the coaches he should still start. Is he not getting it done in practice? Or is Barker just stepping up his game to where he is looking as good as Towles in practice. A guy with no experience shouldn't be looking as good as a guy with experience. Which I'm sure makes the coaches want to see the guy with no experience get a chance then under the lights because he would have alot of room to still get better then if he is already looking as good as the guy with experience.

How's the old saying go again? If you have 2 starting QBs you really don't have any...

I also think that a possible reason for the coaches not naming a starting QB is to keep the competition going between the two. A wise man once told me " competition heightens the play." I would not be surprised if the coaches knew Towles was going to be their 1, but were reluctant to make that designation so early in the summer.

Swagger, pee and vinegar, gunslinger, fearless, while decent qualities for the QB, he has to have a head on his shoulders and make good decisions on the fly. Not real sure Barker is mature enough for that just yet. However, as a UK fan, this team needs as much of what I opened my post with as possible. And it's needed for FOUR quarters.

 

Competition at the QB position makes both of them better. I lean toward starting Towles but he would have a short leash with me. I would also put Barker in as much as I could those first few games to see how each handled situations.

Did hear a little riff on the squad since his fellow team mates at the dorm did not go off on the dude that gave him the cheap shot.

It doesn't matter who is the most mature. The only thing that matters is who can play. Unless Stoops is an idiot he will play the one that can play the best. I know Towles hasn't exactly set the world on fire.....that should speak volumes about Barker's ability or at least what he is showing in practice.
