I agree. On one hand, we fundamentally talk about how great, loving and forgiving God is. But on the other, we are told by fundamentalists to believe that most of the people in the world are born into situations (based simply on where they live) where they will have no opportunity to receive salvation. And forget other religions, there is a lot of ambiguity among the various Christian religions, as to how to achieve salvation.

If I consider myself a Christian, then I have to go by the Bible. The Bible is the guide for all Christians. My suggestion for all who tag themselves with the "Christian Label" is to read the Bible and see what instructions it has for them and where God and Jesus stood on certain things. Clearly there are several that are posting here that has not done that.

 

I have said this before, our opinions don't matter. What matters is what Gods laws are. They are not going to change because I decide to think one way or another. Not up to me to write my own rules according to Jesse James. That way will fail cause I am human and sinful by nature. That has been proven over and over. There is only one just God and he will not be made a mockery of by man. That has also been proven time and time again. Agree or not we can choose our paths and are free to do so. Keep in mind that there are consequences for sin. Your choice. But come the day of judgement, the ONLY thing that will matter is what Gods laws were and those will you be judged by, not what anyone else thought or adopted because they thought they made sense. In today's society that is not popular theology, but that is what the Bible teaches and yes I have read it.

When I was talking to someone yesterday, his issue was people calling it same sex marriage. He believed that marriage has holy connotations and therefore shouldn't be bestowed on gay couples. But he also pointed out that this is essentially a civil union because gay couples getting "married" aren't doing it under God.

I have always been in favor of the government permitting civil unions and churches permitting marriages. That way churches can follow their own teachings on marriage. Some churches do permit same sex marriage as part of their faith.

Nope, no one is. If myself and a Hindu individual live our lives by the same morals, are good and loving to others and are both genuinely sorry when we screw up, do you really believe God will say, "Sorry about your luck?". I don't. I know that's not a viewpoint that's popular with most Christians, and I'm okay with that.

 

I believe that the Bible is inspired by God. So yes I think he would say "sorry about your luck". I think there is accountability, choices, and consequence for those choices. If you choose to ignore God and live life by your own rules then ok and I respect your decision. Understand I'm not preaching at you or trying to beat you over the head I'm just trying to answer your question the best I know how.

Nope, I believe that is now established law, isn't it? You can close though if your religious conviction is that strong.

I am going to find it very hard to pray for someone who believes in rights for gay marriage.

 

I will have to ask God for the strength to do so.
