June 28, 201511 yr I would argue that every law ever written in this country requires that one set of beliefs be imposed upon a different set of beliefs. Sometimes I am glad that happens and sometimes I'm not. But I'm not sure why people of faith get singled out for imposing our beliefs on others. That happens with every single law--one set of morals forced upon another. Some people of faith get singled out because some of them go through the whole process of shaming everyone for not being as in tune with God and their faith as them.
June 28, 201511 yr Suggestion. You might want to read your bible about salvation. You are speaking about Man's expectations of you, not God's. Salvation is something different. Our government was not designed to be dictated by religious beliefs but to give everyone religious freedom to worship as they choose. And strictly notes a clear separation of church and state. So again any biblical based argument carries no merit.
June 28, 201511 yr Yes...and no. I wouldn't say all or every law is necessarily designed around a specific set of beliefs. Sure some of them are seated in or mentioned in biblical references. But I would say our laws are as much designed to keep society in "order" and that people can live and function freely without preventing others from doing so. The main problem with basing all of laws on one set of beliefs strictly based on religion, (in this case Christianity), is that not everyone in our country is Christian, nor are they required to be. Part of the foundation of country is based on freedom of Religion. When mixing a variety of beliefs..approx 30% of this country is non-christian..., it is in my opinion wrong to base all of our laws on a religious foundation. And while I'm Christian, I'm not of the belief that I need to convert or spread the word to the "uniformed". I also hate the idea of telling someone that they have no chance at being "chosen" because they follow a different God. I'd like to believe that if we treat each other fairly and equally and be good and kind to others, my maker will recognize me as deserving when my time comes. Every law is based on a moral code of some kind. For example, I believe slavery to be morally wrong. I assume you do as well. However, not everyone in America believes slavery to be morally wrong. So a law that forbids slavery demands that one person's moral code will be forced upon another (thankfully). My point is...it happens all the time. One person's morality is forced upon another. It's not just people of faith who do this.

But many of laws aren't morality based. Traffic laws for example. Some laws are created not out of morality, but to ensure an orderly, safe, peaceful society, and to prevent people from infringing on the freedoms of others.
June 28, 201511 yr This thread has become a total train wreck. You sure ain't lyin'... It is somehow freakishly entertaining, and a reminder to us all that there are really people walking among us in this world that really do think the way that some who have posted here do, and some even more freakier than others. Freaky, laughable, scary, unsettling, and disturbing all at once.
June 28, 201511 yr Some people of faith get singled out because some of them go through the whole process of shaming everyone for not being as in tune with God and their faith as them. I don't disagree with that at all, although the shame is given by some on both sides of this issue. My overall point is that it's not just people of faith who force morals or beliefs upon others. This happens all the time.

I would argue that this is what's currently happening from the LGBT militia. As I've said before it's not just enough that the "right" to marriage has been granted to them, all opposition MUST be silenced according to them.

I don't disagree with that either, but I think both sides of this issue have certain segments that want to mute the opposition entirely.

I even tried to point out how it comes from all sides and all forms and then my friend's conservative ideology was called into question. :lol2:
June 28, 201511 yr I don't disagree with that either, but I think both sides of this issue have certain segments that want to mute the opposition entirely. Yep. And the "Militia" is not the entire community. Unfortunately, it seems in almost every group, the loudest, most vocal are the extremists, which are usually the smallest portion.

And strictly notes a clear separation of church and state. So again any biblical based argument carries no merit. If you are going to bring up the Bible concerning Christianity, then please provide accurate meanings. Works and good behavior do not get you into heaven. BTW, separation of church and state is a joke. Thomas Jefferson did not believe in religion. Our country continues down the path of injustice due to our leaders' indignation towards God.
