Reds getting ready to trade Cueto and Leake?

Featured Replies

Wonder if they could get Bubba Sterling from the Royals for Leake?

That's who I had in mind as well. He was once a top 100 prospect but has kind of fell off the radar, that's who I'd be asking for if I were the Reds. The Royals farm doesn't off much to get excited about and the prospects that are exciting are pitchers. Raul Mondesi Jr is the only other non pitching piece I'd get excited about but I doubt the Royals would part with the top 50 ranked prospect even though he's proven he can't hit.

I just dropped him in my keeper league after spending a first round pick a few years ago, bought into the 2 sport athlete hype.

As I said in one of the numerous threads on the subject in the off-season, Mr. C. does not want to look like a fire-sale is occuring before they host the ASG, and he wants to remain as competitive as they can up until that point. I obviously agree with you that it is silly, but that isn't our call to make.

My concern is that Mr. C thinks they can win this year & won't sell sell sell.

If the Phillies can get Mazara for Hamels, the Reds should be able to get a grade A prospect for Cueto.

Hamels is signed beyond this season. Cueto is not.

Whoever gets Cueto will have the money to resign him if they want.

Doesn't mean they will be willing to give up more for him.

If they keep hovering around 5 games out of the WC they won't be trading anyone. To the Reds defense, they have been playing a lot better since they cut loose Gregg, Marquis and optioned Jumbo. They had that one long 7 or 8 game losing streak but outside of that they have played some solid ball. The Reds have a wildcard caliber team when the bullpen performs well, however I'm still smart enough to know that they have no chance at a WS title and that's what it's all about. It stinks because while I'd love to stay in this wildcard race this season I'd love more to rubuild and possibly have a championship caliber team in the years to come. Management isn't going to see it this way however if they keep winning games.

Dave Collins said on TV the other night that he might add a piece or two to this team. The call-up of the younger guys seems to have put a jolt into the veterans. With that said, I see no reason not to deal Cueto if a good deal comes along. Still think they can sign Leake and will because he is young and has not had to deal with the injury bug. His best years are still ahead of him IMO.

I also think about making Chapman a starter and thus start stretching him out a little. He has more value on the open market as a starter than he does as a reliever.

The problem is that they play in the best division in baseball and its not going to get easier. The NLC (including the awful Brewers) is 22 games over .500 vs the rest of NL.

I do agree that as long as they hover around this they will keep guys, I just disagree with it.

Not helping his trade value at all tonight...
