Reds getting ready to trade Cueto and Leake?

Featured Replies

Aaron Judge was just promoted to AAA by the Yankees. Hes a guy I really want to acquire, a huge right handed bat that reminds me of Giancarlo Stanton would put up huge numbers in the small park.

Any other year then I agree, but it would be really embarrassing to Castellini IMO if anyone is in another uniform in a all star game in your city.

Unless they trade Frazier they most likely will not have to worry about that.

Cueto only pitched 5 innings his last outing versus Detroit and would've been pitching on an extra day of rest tomorrow vs the Pirates. Seems like something is going on, either a trade or he's a little banged up. With the team riding a hot streak versus a divisional team that your chasing and Cueto already getting an extra day of rest with the off day I can't see them just "resting him". If the Reds were interested in trading him you'd think they would want him to make all of his starts to put to rest any concern over his health status and allow him to audition for teams.

I think that's the hold up...since he is in essence a "Rental" they don't want to part with a top prospect.

I have heard that they aren't trading their top 2 (Seager or Urias) but have also heard that even if they didn't, guys 3 through 8 on their prospect list are still darn good prospects.

At the same time, I can see the Reds point if they say "you want him now, before the all star break, with the extra starts? We want one of your top 2."

If they are going to trade him now rather than the break, it makes sense to ask for more, and not something they'll be able to get in a month at the deadline.

Spoke with a guy from CA on the phone yesterday, and he said he heard it was likely that we'd be shipping Cueto to his Giants. Who knows what he really knows though.

I think they are just being extra cautious with him right now. No need to throw him 120 pitches a game. Give him an extra day or two of rest if they can.

Loser mentality = Let's wait until after the All Star break because it might be embarrasing if a player is on another team for the All Star game.

Winner Mentality = Let's trade him where we can get maximum value despite what it may look like to anyone.

Rosenthal reported yesterday (I believe) that the Royals have been inquiring about both Cueto and Leake.

Here's an interesting scenario, palace them and try to get the best prospect out of any team? Or trade them seperate, and get a few good-great ones back?

Could the Giants be a fit for Marlon Byrd? Pence and Aoki are both injured.

I've thought that... Perhaps the Dodgers would move one of those top two prospects and other good ones for a package like that...

In my mind, if you're packaging them both, you have to get at least one top 10-15 prospect....

You'd be more likely to get a top 10-15 prospect for one of them and Chapman since they'd get him for an extra season. You most likely aren't going to get a top 10-15 prospect in all of baseball for a rental--especially if you wait until after the break to deal them.

I don't think waiting till the AS break is that big of a deal. The team is getting one of these guys to make a deep playoff run most likely. If it was that important to the other teams they would be making an offer the Reds can't refuse to get them early.

You're still not getting a top 15 prospect for a rental. If they're going to give that up they'd get Hamels so that they would have him beyond this season and would get a draft pick back if he leaves. Otherwise they'd just try to get Cueto for a prospect package and pick up another league average pitcher (which is all Leake is) for some lesser prospects from another team.
