For or against this type of play in a high school playoff game?

Baseball Trick Play Helps Lead to a State Title

I've seen Harrison County attempt this play a couple of times. Scott pulled a hidden ball trick on Harrison County last year in the Regional tourney, which helped them get out of a tough inning and win the game, although they didn't do all the acting you see in the video. I'm not a huge fan of "trickery" in baseball, but if you get caught in one of these plays it's your own fault. Runners should always know where the ball is. If you don't see the ball, you stay on the base.

Why would anyone other than the kid that got picked off and his third base coach have a problem with this play?

i agree with rjs4470. pay attention!!! ......coaches too!!! you should ALWAYS know where the ball is.

Not sure why anyone would have a problem with this play. It is a well executed play, no reason to have a problem with it.

Harrison Co pulled this play off against Highlands and succeeded in the 1997 State Tournament. I think that was the year. Current Highlands Coach Jeremy Baioni led off one of the Innings with a double to only have a Soph pinch runner come in to run for him and then get picked off. The Birds lost the game and ended a very special run by one of arguably Highlands best teams.

The Mac Whitaker special.

I'd say it's a pretty cool way to win. They out smarted the other team hands down.

More memorable than striking the last batter out.

Probably more memorable long term than a homer to win it.

I have no problem with it at all. Poor base running and coaching, IMO. Anybody really paying attention doesn't fall for that.

I'm OK with it. as long as the rules say you can do it (or don't say you can't) I'm good with it.

Its all good. Many different trick plays around that have won games.......

:isurrender: I am not a baseball person. Could someone please explain to me what is happening? I have watched it a couple times and I cannot figure it out. Thanks.

Pitcher turns and fakes a pick off to second base. Second baseman, shortstop and centerfielder all react like the ball was thrown into centerfield. The runner sees them "running after the ball" so he takes off to third. Only problem is the pitcher still has the ball and runs over to tag the runner.
