Trying to trick/deceive the opponent is a part of most sports that involve a ball.

 

I think it's interesting that some tricks are considered by pretty much everyone to be acceptable as just a part of the game, while others are considered to be inappropriate by some.

The line for what is acceptable and what isn't can vary greatly from person to person.

Not only is there nothing wrong with it, I would hope EVERY team works on a play like this and pull it out in time of need. In this case, even if it didn't work, it just might be enough to keep the base runner closer to 2nd or put a little indecision in his head, and maybe that's enough to have him not score on a base hit.
