Wait a minute! How did he get a roster of the football team and Sweep can't get a baseball roster. Sounds like UKfan has someone on the inside.

Ok was given some bad info then. Why didn't he play QB for the Red Devils? The kid is a gamer for sure! True leader...

Because it was the Red Devils?

Mitchell played for Campbell County Youth Football League before he moved to the Fort. His first year in football. Started as a RB then switched to QB after an injury. Played in six games and threw quite a few TDs, don't remember how many but it was again sixth grade football. The kid is an all around athlete and whether he makes a run at QB or plays WR, he will excel at either. If he does throw his name in the hat, it will make the Birds better. Not because he may win the job, but competition is a good thing and it could make AH better knowing he may have some pressure. As with any QB, there are always things that need improved on and it would benefit both athletes.

The question is... Could Cain play the position? I for one have no doubts... He is a gamer, football smart and brings a toughness to anything he plays. I remember in his last Red Team game he broke a finger on his throwing hand on one of the first few plays of the game and remained in the game to lead to a win. The injury led to surgery to puting pins in to repair the break.

All this being said, I am severely biased and I want whatever is best for Mitchell and the Birds. Whether he throws a TD or catches another one in the next State Championship game makes no difference to me. We just need to get there....

Looking at their roster and they don't look like a normal Highlands team nobody really stands out.

5 kids really stand out Hergott, Kendall, Dougherty, Robinson and Hebel.

I'm confused. :idunno:

If it makes you feel any better, I think we all are.....again:ohbrother:

Okay, so what is going on in Birdville these days with the footballers? Field has been torn up and will be ready to go for summer practice. Anyone making position changes of note? Any new faces that have not been around the program the last few years. I know there are quite a few playing baseball and running track, but would expect that everyone else is on deck and accounted for?

So Highlands is in the middle of field renovations. In another thread, it was mentioned that the goal post were removed and cut up. I remember the last time the field was put in, the removed them and welded plates to the bottom for reuse. Wonder why perfectly good goal post we removed and cut up. JOAT, you have anything on this. Seems like a waste of money or was this a mistake.

Well let me tell you what I learned just recently. The goal posts at Highlands were not supposed to be taken down as a part of the field renovations. However, it was discovered by someone that they were not regulation width for high school. They were 11 inches too narrow, 5.5 inches on each side. It was then determined that since all these renovations were being done, that regulation goal posts would also be installed. With that said, I guess that 49 yard field goal against LexCath at the end of the first half would have been good had the goalposts been regulation width. Hoping that with all of the money being spent on the field renovations that the school can afford to purchase a kickoff tee since the one from last year went missing the night before the first CovCath game.

The field is also being shifted slightly in order to make it safer along the corners of the end zones for both players and fans. Seems like miracle no one has been seriously hurt running into the school, a fence, etc.

I'm surprised nobody has ran into the back of the school along the sidelines?

I've witnessed it happen at least once in a JV games, and if memory serves, I think I saw it in a varsity game there once as well. It wasn't a terribly bad collision, but I've seen it occur nonetheless.

For years, this has been an "accident" waiting to happen. Understanding that the stadium is "really old" and there is a "history", "nostagiia" that resonates with David Cecil Memorial Stadium. I cannot tell you how many times I have "cringed" when a running back, wide receiver or defender makes a play on either sideline or corner of the field. Although the hometeam's sidelines seem safer that the visitors, neither is very safe. I have personally witnessed a defender making a tackle on the visitors sidelines, sliding head first into the "stairs"/"ramp" leading up to the stands. The game was delayed for some time. Thankfully, the participant was ok. "Is it going to take someone getting seriously injured for Highlands to put in some type of safety measures for these young men."

Both "sidelines" have stairs that extend out from the school and/or the stands. Both, whether concrete or steel, are extremely dangerous. There is no padding or barriers to prevent/slow down an athlete from seriously injuring themselves. Both endzones on the school side are ridiculous. The stairs to the concession area, stairs to the "visitor" lockerroom (old gym) and especially the windows on the Middle School end of the field.

Once again, I understand that David Cecil Memorial Stadium is landlocked and there is no where to go.

QUESTION: Can't Ft. Thomas City Council/School Board/Someone spend a few bucks on something that is vitally important and protect our Student Athletes from a serious injury? Portable Padding? Barriers? Anything?

Yes, I realize David Cecil Memorial Stadium has been around a long time and to my knowledge, no one has been "seriously" injured due to the stadium or close proximity of the school to the field.

If OSHA stopped by and had "authority" over David Cecil Memorial Stadium, they would probably "shut it down" due to "hazardous conditions".

If you haven't been to a game at David Cecil Memorial Stadium and lived the "OH C - - P, moments that many Highlands faithful have, then you may not understand this post. If you have been to a game at David Cecil Memorial Stadium, you know exactly what I am talking about. I pray that no one gets seriously injured and I think it is time that the city/school system steps up and puts in "safety" measures to prevent any athlete from the potential serious injury that this field presents.

Sorry for the "rant". Just hate to see any child be put in a situation where "going all out" could danger their health.
