He was the leading WR at the end of the regular season with a freshmen QB.

That should not take away from an individual award where he was the best player on the field in every game his bad team played and is a D1 commit. We are supposedly talking about the best players in the state. Being a D1 commit qualifies whether he plays on a bad team or not.

 

Highlands played several bad teams. Ironically the teams you used as an example were the teams Highlands lost to. Veneman is a good player and the best NKY has to offer, but not statewide. If you are picking the absolute best in the state(hence the name "all state"), I'm taking the D1 guys, not good high school player that had good statistics.

 

And most of those games Veneman didn't play the whole game.

 

Like many other posters are saying, how was he a Mr. Football finalist?

 

Name a reason each of the players above deserves to be first team over Veneman who is statistically the best WR in the state by far.

The real All State Team is being created on another thread "College Commit List". So the real All Star list won't be completed until Aug 2015. Less then 6% of all HS football players play at the next level. These players are being selected to play at the college level by coaches with no hidden agendas. These coaches only select the best players.

 

Now I can see why a lot of coaches don't put much stock in these lists. There are multiple D1 prospects and players with D1 offers that were omitted.

I hear what you are saying Justafan but being the most talented athlete and getting a DI scholarship does not make you an all state selection over a less talented player who did more at the HS level. For example, a o lineman who developed late and was not "all that" in HS may have the frame college coaches look for - the coach knows they can put 50 lbs on him and make him a stud in college. That does not make him all-state over a kid who had an awesome HS career but is not what the DI coaches are looking for. It is sort of the same as college players going to the pros. How many Heisman trophy winners have gone on to NOTHING in the pros? How many big time pros have did not do that much in college?

This is where I am. How does having D-1 offers have anything to do with KY all state votes??? Don't you make all state on your accomplishments in high school????

 

For those saying Vennenan didn't do it against this and that, I ask you. What??? Then I will ask who did Sindular and Harris do it against? If you're good, you're good. We can compare the "who the numbers came against" with just about every player other than the T guys!

Congrats to all the players who were named either 1st 2nd or HM. Congrats to Coach John Hines as Coach of the year! All State is just like All Pro or All Star every year someone gets snubbed.

Case in point John Hardin had 6 selections...(Finished the season with a record of 7-7)... Central Hardin had 4 selections. Meade beat John Hardin during the regular season and beat Central Hardin in the Regional Championship game (30-8). In the playoffs Meade beat Henry Clay...6A champion Scott County at Scott county, undefeated Central Hardin at Central, went 11-3 losing to Trinity in the 6A State Semis and only has 2 selections.

Teams without a major newspaper or AP voting member in their county or community are always at a disadvantage. Regardless of the players performance. In addition, FB/TE should have their own category.

Let me rephrase that for Jason Frakes: How many kids with FBS offers (NOT preferred walk-on, but actual scholarships) did NOT make the Courier-Journal All-State Team as selected by the coaches?

 

Not talking about the AP team (which had only 2 NKY kids).

We're talking about the C-J team (which had far more NKY kids).

 

How many kids have FBS offers didn't make the C-J team (completely left off, as in not even honorable mention) as voted on by the coaches themselves?

Olmstead was honorable mention All-State by the C-J.

 

Hedger wasn't listed, but it's harder for TEs to make it when they're lumped in with WR or OL and not by themselves (same with FB when they're lumped in with RB).

 

According to yahoo, Hedger has three offers (Austin Peay, Hampton and Holy Cross), but none from the 70+ FBS schools (when Jason Frakes was talking about D-I, he was probably referring to FBS and not FCS which non-scholarship Morehead, non-scholarship Dayton and the non-scholarship Ivy League schools play in).

 

Big difference between Auburn and Austin Peay or between Hawaii and Hampton.
