I have to agree with this statement. This kid is a winner and brought a lot of intangibles to Central Hardin. I am curious though if them going to a Wing T style offense hurt him because his stats were not the same as they were last year.

 

I'm not a CH fan...but you have to give it to the kid. Beat Meade..Won the district after like 22 years..undefeated season..won two playoff games and was MVP of the Best of the Bluegrass. His coach wins coach of the year and the other key players end up 1st Team all area and his RB makes HM. He ends up 2d team all area. Go figure..

IDK about the stats....Stats are the last thing people should be using. Half the teams don't even report stats. Most are inflated or not accurate. Some coaches run up the stats while other coaches take out their playmakers when a game is in hand. The problem with these lists is they rely to much on stats and not enough on the actual player.

My suggestion would be to use stats to get them in consideration, then get your top "X number" for each position from that list, then do a reality check by dissecting the stats further and also understanding more about the player as you continue to cut your list. You have to add some thought. There are a ton of kids that don't have comparable stats that are just better players at that position. For the reason mentioned above.

No doubt that high school stats aren't 100% reliable, and no doubt that there is an x-factor that HAS to be taken into account...but to say "stats are the last thing people should be using" is pretty far out there, if you ask me.

Considering Meade County QB John Wilson was voted on by the coaches as Area Offensive Player of the Year, then he should be first team. It would look bad for the Overall Offfensive Player of the Year to be second team.

Which meant North Hardin's Bankhead -- who finished in the top four in the state in passing yards per game regardless of class -- was honorable mention All-Area (he got nothing All-State wise).

It was much easier for Wilson to earn All-State on defense because you vote for far more safeties than you do QBs.And he got second team All-State (plus, you can't make All-State both ways anyway -- limited to one side of the ball, which therefore honors more players).

I’m just saying stats are driving the train on most of these selections. The problem is they are able to be manipulated to say anything. Most voters are just going through the motions without putting any thought into the ballot. Whether it’s the C-J list where coaches are nominating their buddies players are voting for their buddies players.

 

The AP is done by media markets that in some cases leave out entire regions or leans heavy to their primary readership. One voter said player “A” just didn’t have the stats but was a better player. None of the stats used to select these players are validated. Again how can you use a system that not everyone participates in? Using stats alone is a flawed process.

 

RCC9..was spot on. Stats could be used to develop the pool (But only stats verified by the KHSAA). Then take TIME to take a more in depth look at each player. Maybe review some games, competition level, type of offensive scheme. Trinity QB was only HM, maybe if he wasn’t playing such stiff competition he would have more stats or Donald Brooks for the matter. I’m sure the defenses he ran against was a lot tougher than Cider or Harris.

 

Stats should only be one factor…not the sole answer whether a player is All State. The problem is people like all these lists but don’t want do the homework to make sure it’s a quality product.

I totally agree CK..John Wilson couldn’t be on second team after being named “Offensive Player of the Year” and shouldn’t be on second team. Again the QB HM should be increased to compensate for the numerical value given (2 Pts) to QBs. Mattingly from Male HS also falls into this category.

 

Bankhead I understand he had a lot of passing yards but also had a lot of interceptions. Plus the team finished 2-8. “I'm not so sure they were better than Zuberer of O'Cath and Ryan of LexCath. And Zuberer and Ryan couldn't crack the team either.” Idk, they all played great football and led their teams to success.

There are no AP news outlets in NKY, and thereby no one from NKY is voting on the AP All State team, and kids from schools like Dixie and Simon Kenton who haven't been seen much (or at all) by AP members in other areas of the state are missed when the votes are made.

 

This is a fine list of players, and they all deserve recognition. I just think more effort needs to be put forth by the Associated Press to let it be known that there are certain regions of the state that are less likely to be recognized on the list due to the fact that they aren't represented in the voting. It seems to me like there is a LOT of misunderstanding about this.

How ever they do it is a joke! It is time NKY has an all star game against the rest if Kentucky. Just like the one with Louisville against Kentucky. Better yet make a NKY all star team play a Cincinnati all star team.

What a nice NKY WISH LIST. These kid might had a good season or career. Some of the players you named barely made the NKY all team. You expect them to be mention on the All state teams? In reality Lafayette has 4 this year. In 2016 will have more ALL-STATER than SK/DH again.
