2 of the 3 first team WR's have multiple D1 offers as Juniors and are outstanding players. Lucky Jackson (WKU commit) being second team is a bigger joke than Venneman being an honorable mention. Does Venneman have any D1 offers?

I agree. Veneman may have had a ton of catches and yards etc but when you are the target 80% of the time you will put up numbers like that. The problem V had IMO was too many dropped passes. He had a lot of drops but the pure punt of times he was targeted will hide those a lot of times.

 

Vennan was a great player, don't get me wrong. He had 4 more games than most of the other WR's which gives him more receptions etc.

4 Lafayette players? I watched them play SK had a bunch of better football players!

When players that hold D1 offers are listed as honorable mentions behind others that are "just" good high school players the team is flawed IMO. The biggest slight in this AP All State team is the complete omission of Nick Coffey of Russell County who is a D1 WKU commit. He didn't even make honorable mention. Any "all-state" team that does not include the states D1 talent (that hold actual offers) on their first or second team loses a lot of credibility IMO.

Take this all state team bring them to NKY minus the 2 Highlands kids and play the all NKY team. I think the all NKY team wins easy!

Numbers are real. Plus Venneman played against a tougher schedule. Like Johnny Football in the NFL, the next level is a different game. A lot of scholarahips are based on potential. This was based on High School, not college. There is a big of enough difference in stats that Venneman should be first team.

-- Lexington Christian's Nick Whitman was third in the state overall in rushing yards per game AND third in the state in points per game and didn't get anything.

-- North Hardin's Isaiah Bankhead was third in the state overall in passing yards per game and didn't get anything.

-- Fairview's Alex Roy was fourth in the state overall in passing yards per game and didn't get anything.

-- Michael Vaeth of Hancock County and Devan Ables of Magoffin County were both in the top four in receiving yards per game and didn't get anything.

Extra games mostly offset by the several games where he didn't take the field in the second half though. Pretty much a wash in quarters played.

Those players played against bad teams. Highlands played Elder and state runner up Christoper Columbus from Florida. Name 2 teams by either of the teams listed about that teams like that. Stats arent the end all be all but there is such a significant difference between him and anyone else against tougher schedules and against better players. You mentioed players 3rd, 3rd, 4th etc that played against lower level of competition.

 

If people could do what Veneman did, then why doesn't Highlands have that person every year?

Amd as for Harris, he didn't win Mr. Kentucky football because of being hurt. Part of being the best player is being healthy.

Who are these players? Do any of them have D1 offers?

 

How many kids in KY have full ride DI FBS offers? I'd say maybe 10-20 which is less than 1% of graduating seniors. We only have 3 players in state in top 100 at their position.

If you are being targeted 80% of the time and are leading the state in receiving - how much defensive attention do you think you get? Both in terms of schemes and personnel.

That should not take away from an individual award where he was the best player on the field in every game his bad team played and is a D1 commit. We are supposedly talking about the best players in the state. Being a D1 commit qualifies whether he plays on a bad team or not.

Highlands played several bad teams. Ironically the teams you used as an example were the teams Highlands lost to. Veneman is a good player and the best NKY has to offer, but not statewide. If you are picking the absolute best in the state(hence the name "all state"), I'm taking the D1 guys, not good high school player that had good statistics.

The same group that picks Mr Football from the seven finalists that are listed puts the only wide receiver that is a finalist as an HM player. Chew on that for a while.
