Trace Young 6'7" Sophomore Ohio County

Featured Replies

Also Ohio County might not release him right away. .

This a misconception on transfers. There is no releasing the schools. The schools fill out the paperwork and send it to the KHSAA. They can add additional info if there is some out there. But the schools do not have anything to do with the "releasing" of a player.

According to chatter on Twitter this afternoon. Trace Young has been cleared by the KHSAA and as of now is eligible for Apollo. Supposedly he practiced today with the team for the first time.

Just got cleared by the KHSAA #Itsova

That should certainly shake things up.

Just curious, is he a legit sophomore? Age wise?

Not sure. Some of the posters above could answer that question better than I could.

Trace turned 17 right after Christmas.

This could be interesting to see this all pan out come tournament

Interesting...

Still not as old as half the players in southeastern Kentucky.

Trace turned 17 right after Christmas.

So he'll turn 19 during his senior year. Can't turn 19 before August 1st of your senior year, so that should allow him to be eligible the entire time.

While I see the merit to both sides of the argument about age, I think many athletes are some of the oldest in each graduating class at many high schools.

Having said that, Trace isn't that extreme of an example.

There are sophomores who turned 17 before Senior Jacob Conway and right after senior Trey Moses. The same kids are 3 months younger than Aric Holman and 5 months younger than Hagen Tyler....

It's becoming more and more of a common practice. Especially in certain parts of the state. And some kids are just young for their grades.

It sounded like from the local newspaper today, that Trace will see the floor Friday night against Catholic.

It's a joke and an embarrassment that this is becoming the norm. Sure it is within the letter of the rules but definitely not the spirit of the rules. Used to be if there wasn't a legitimate reason (academic or social) for holding a kid back you couldn't do it. It's not the kids fault but it's on the parents. What message is this sending to the kids? Guess I am naive and old fashioned for thinking High School was about otaining an education.

This is a very easy way for a kid, through the actions of his parents, to gain a competitive advantage. One hopes that the kid, in his or her post-high school life, doesn't become frustrated or angry when he/she realizes these types of advantages are no longer so readily available.
