Ive read several posters state that only the HHS players

and fans not to panic. You apparently didn't read the update Thread. There were several HHS fans who thought HHS would lose. So no need to pat the HHS fans on the back as if they knew better and they had the game in hand. Just sayin

 

Now if some of you feel the need to continually boost your ego's, then go ahead. I just do t think you need to.

 

HHs was a great team this year and they proved it yesterday.

The point was that unlike many of the posts in here after the fact stating the HHS fans were confident of winning after the way they went down wasn't entirely true. That many, as even you admitted, weren't overly confident while others outside the team were. So it wasn't just HHS fans that thought they would win and it wasn't also HHS fans overly confident that they would.

From the looks on their faces up close, the expressions were either fatigue or "oh crap we P'd them off"

Exciting game to watch.

It's been mentioned by a lot how the tough games vs Florida and Elder prepped them. Add Bryan Station to that list. How soon that is forgotten.

Better team in which half... I, and I'm sure most HHS fans would agree... OHS was the better team in the first half but that's been the HHS story in most games this year... Both teams turned the ball over but better teams learn and adjust... The coaches help but they do not play any of the downs. Better execution of the game plan was clearly the difference in the second half. Coaches don't call for turnovers and as I stated, both teams had them. The middle of our defense was porous in the first half but Mills and the rest of the middle decided to own it and the pressure helped take away the pass and the pitch.

OHS is a super solid team and definitely earned the right to be there but the team that was better when it counted came out with the victory.... Congrats to both squads on an awesome game.

I thought it was an exceptionally intelligent play by Grayson Heck to slide to the ground after making the final interception. He had plenty of room to run and had a chance to score a touchdown in a State Championship game. Instead he made the team play and slide to the ground rather than risking the turnover.

 

If I remember right, he was near the hash on the Highlands side of the field. I will bet a dollar to a donut he is deaf in his left ear from the coaches yelling GET DOWN!

I really didn't read on here where anyone said they were "scared of Highlands" in fact they played a great first half of football. They took advantage of HHS turnovers/ short punt and converted them to scores and executed a nice game plan on O, played with no critical penalties, had a couple of good bounces and won the first half. Highlands changed the game in the second half, first took away the pitch, then stopped the QB slant and dive, forced passing and intercepted the ball and converted scores. ( Btw, aren't all turnovers ill-advised) They played like champions do and ...... The better team did win. No shame for Owensboro, they played a good game and almost came away with the upset. Great effort by both, great game to witness.

I never thought OHS was scared of HHS...never. Some of the OHS players looked tired in the second half IMO. That is why I asked if OHS had any or many players going both ways. HHS plays at the fastest pace of any team I have seen this year and defenses tend to wear down in the second half, especially if they have any players going both ways. That's why I asked. OHS played a great first half and a not so good second half...HHS was just the opposite...not because of anyone being afraid but because of execution...

Highlands couldn't guard Rodney Collier #13 for OHS in a phone booth. OHS stopped going off tackle, to the outside, and the passing game. Highlands totally deserves to win and I give them full credit. I just feel like OHS was a better team but the OHS coaches dropped the ball. I had a person tell me at halftime that the first half was worth the last 10 years of bad play calling. I agreed but I knew there was another half to play. Anytime a team plays not to lose, they typically wind up losing. Hats off to highlands to making the plays, but any comments about "uh oh, they p'd them off or whatever is garbage.

Congrats to the Highlands Bluebirds! Big questions for them entering this season with a new coach and some staff I believe. But once you establish your program to the level that the entire team believes they will win no matter the score or situation, coupled with a good schedule, you wont lose much even if you dont have the best talent your school has ever had or even if it is the state championship game. Well done!

 

Congrats to the Owensboro Red Devils! I know you'd like to redo that second half, but most people on here thought you would get blown out whether they said it or not. Quite the contrary. You represented your school and community really well. I said this after the BG game this year, as I still think Nick Locher was the most under rated QB in the state last year. Seems you are a very passionate Red Devil fan but somewhat jaded in your thinking. I saw a team play 1/2 of mostly error free football. The same team played the other half not so mistake free. How is it the "better team" lost yet was out scored 28 to 0 in the second half? How is it the "better team" lost when it was very apparent OHS had some success passing when they WANTED to versus when they HAD to? How is it the " better team" lost when the turnovers were equal? You wish the readers to believe that OHS coaches went away from plays that were successful at times yet I do believe HHS made adjustments in the 2nd half if nothing more than saying "enough."

 

I do agree when a team plays not to lose versus to win it changes the dynamic of the game. HHS had been down in previous games, Elder, CC of Miami, and early against Lex Cath yet always came back to make a game of it or win. I have to believe the coaches of OHS did not think HHS could mount such an effort in the 2nd half all the while I think the HHS coaches had faith they would.

Kinda speaking out of both sides of your mouth. One second you say you give HHS credit for winning and then the next, you say OHS gave it to them!! So should us HHS fans say the same thing about Collins last year?? The better team lost? The better team won. Heck, if HHS doesn't make the the mistakes in the first half that they usually don't, then what? Dropped passes, shanked punts, fumbles without really a cause to fumble, didn't see the interception but the announcers said it was a bad decision by Hoge to try and throw it. My point, if HHS plays the way they normally play (very disciplined and without that many errors), then we aren't really talking about this being close. HHS made several unforced bad plays on offense and that doesn't typically happen with them. They shot themselves in the foot.

 

Now that is not taking anything away from OHS' offense. They shoved it right down HHS' throat and looked unstoppable. They are VERY good and I was VERY impressed with every kid on that team! It was amazing what they did with the kids they had. But if HHS doesn't shoot themselves in the foot, they score right with them in that half. And if you don't think HHS made adjustments at half, then you weren't watching the same game. And it was clear OHS was tired. Go back and watch the game progress in the second half. Look at the penetration HHS was getting. Watch the OHS lineman between plays bending over on their knees. If you don't think the fatigue and adjustments made all the difference in the world, you have OHS goggles on. The second half, the QB couldn't do anything and had no time to throw and that forced bad decisions and play calls that may have been out of the ordinary for them and it cost them. I'm sure the play calling was an attempt to adjust to what HHS was doing in their adjustments. Ans as you watch the game, watch what HHS did different in the second half with their LBs. You'll see what adjustment was made and why the plays weren't coming together like they were in the first half. One of the interviewed HHS kids did say, they didn't make MANY adjustment, but also quit doing the "cutsy" stuff and just played our normal defense. But it was clear they were taking more away with their LBs and getting MUCH more penetration in the second half. So you can say what you want, but explain the penetration, stuffing the run, no time to throw like in the first...fatigue, HHS adjustments or bad play calling for the entire 2nd half? You really think it was the play calling that allowed HHS to get in the backfield?? Stuff the same plays that were working in the first half? OHS scored 0 in the second half and that was all play calling?

 

Again, thought the OHS kids were amazing yesterday, but saying the better team didn't win is crazy!
