If my memory serves me right, OHS threw 2 ints on 4th and medium to long. 4th down execution made a big difference.

Here are a couple of other critical situations that certainly had effect in the first half:

 

1. OHS punts towards the HHS goal line. The OHS player fields the ball on or very near the 1. He carried the ball into the end zone either by momentum or just running. I'm no rules expert but the officials placed the ball inside the 1. He absolutely didn't stop out of the end zone. I assume it was the correct call if all the punting team has to do is "touch" the ball in play and not establish control while in play. Curious. HHS went on to punt in that possession turning the ball bsck to OHS in great field position.

2. With time winding down in the 2nd quarter, call it approximately 30 seconds, OHS gained about 8'yards on a first down play. The officials Stopped the clock allowing OHS needed seconds, maybe 5 or 6 eventually resulting in their last score of the first half.

 

I am not suggesting this the outcome was overly influenced by this but OHS was certainly the beneficiary of these 2 situations. If the ruling on point 1 is correct I will stand corrected. My final thought is HHS is and was the better team, under no circumstance do I believe OHS was 21 points better as was the result of the first half, but that HHS was better and proved in the second and final half!

 

So was it the right call? I heard that a certain local KHSAA official said that it might of been the wrong call. So if it was wrong, then there is also 5 more officials that will be more than likely held accountable. How can all 5 officials miss the same call. I'm thinking it's the right call but with the latest penalties handed down from the Semi-Final game, Who really knows! Can someone clarify?

Yeah really....

 

Sort of like a team kicking a on-sides kick can't advance the football and is spotted where it is recovered but a return team can advance. The front line on the return team should be dead where they receive it. If they want to start protecting kids from Targeting then this is a must. IMO! Way too many chances a kid gets blown up when he doesn't have a eye on the contact coming. You don't see many Front line fair catches in Football do you?

Crew throws a flag because it was obvious Highlands moved but then talked and picked it up and waved it off and said no foul...Well of course the Owensboro fans went nuts as they should have.

 

We later find out that the reason its picked up is because another ref stepped in and cited that Owensboro was barking Highlands cadence and had been warned throughout the game. So the real foul here was a 15yd unsportsmanlike on Owensboro but since Highlands was getting ready to score I guess they thought nah baby nah...I dont get that one at all

Commentators thought the flag was waived off because the ball had not been "set for play" by the white hat, so nothing happened (whether procedure, fumble, TD pass, etc.)

Same thing happened when Oboro had the ball and spiked it to stop the clock. White hat had not put the ball in play, so Oboro got a do over. And again spiked the ball.

The white hat and boys were a tad slow to say the least setting the ball as they had trouble keeping up with the pace of the game.
