That boys is as big of a time throw that you will see at the HS level let alone college and professional. Not a big wind up throw it as far as you can kind of pitch but more in lines with a flick of the arm and wrist. What makes Beau so strong is his core strength :thumb:

His dad commented on that throw Sunday Morning on ESPN when he was doing a bit on the Bengals Steelers game. He said it was the best throw he's seen in person ever as was the run the other week being the best run he's ever seen in person. He said he's seen better ones on video, but not in person. I know he's a proud pappa and all, and should be, but that is saying a lot. I thought it was an incredible throw, across his body and was a bullseye.

And at the 2:29 mark I believe that is considered "targeting" by a defensive player turned offensive...Is that a rule?

I rewatched the game last night and to the posters talking about the reads the QB made they are dead right! In the 2nd half the outside was as wide open as it was in the 1st half. And there were maybe only 5-6 times when the QB either kept it or pitched it. Locher for whatever reason just misread things. Coach Joe Prince was quoted in the Owensboro paper as saying he and his staff didn't make the adjustments in the 2nd half they needed to make to counter the ones Highlands made. He never mentions his kids being tired,intimidated,etc. And Owensboro was moving the ball on the last two drives they had the ball. The toss sweep out of the I formation on 3rd and 5 was strange because Owensboro was moving the ball out of the triple option look up until that point. And then of course the half back pass was strange when yet again the offense was now getting a push out of the triple option look.

I noted it in my previous post - huge play at a HUGE time (play of game for HHS)...without it Owensboro ball up 14 in decent field position. Again, best throw I've seen this year maybe ever @ high school level.

That should shed some light on the debate here...Offensively Highlands is most probably close in both halves and their game plan is not altered.

 

For Owensboro, Highlands makes the adjustment at half on Defense and Owensboro makes no change = Goose Egg

 

See, I dont think there is any secret and it has been said all along during this run that Highlands would put up points and basically nobody was going to stop that. The big question was always could Highlands stop a threat if they had to?

 

Owensboro coach didn't blow that game and neither did their players, Highlands just out executed them for an entire game on Offense and one half of Defense. So the difference was Owensboro didnt get the job done on Defense in either half as the numbers prove resulting in the loss.

 

And for the record, I am not saying the Owensboro defense lost that game either, they just couldn't stop Highlands much like the rest of their competition this yr. :thumb:

you forgot both sides had an onside kick recovery, both sides botched a punt and set up the other team, both teams are great...but Sweep has it...execution...when it was on the line HHS executed well enough to win the game. Good competition in 4A this year. The other best team I saw was Madisonville, but I think they would have had real trouble with Highlands because no passing game.

Agree on Beau's throw. When he let it go and I saw the path the football was on, I said to myself there is noway that #14 Chandler New catches that. Fortunately he did! Great throw for sure. I remember on numerous occasions a few years back when Towles would let some throws go and absolutely carry receivers out of play. We have been spoiled for sure with some D1 QB's at Highlands the last 15 years.

Very nice video!

Stats support what we all saw, two heavyweights exchanging blow for blow. One was better early, the other late and so it came down to the wire.

Trying not to repeat:

 

1 - Defense: what I saw in the 2nd half was HHS generally splitting their DEs wider to allow the OLBs to be wider as well. In a triple option, that formation typically dictates the dive to the FB b/c the NG is by himself. HHS countered that by "crashing" 1 or both of their MLBs at or just prior to the snap on most occasions. This gives the QB a pre-snap read of a 3-4 defense spread really wide. At snap, however, it plays more like a 5-7 man front with the 2 MLBs playing effectively like DTs to stuff the run. A "pop pass" to the TE, if OHS had that in their playbook, is a great way to defeat MLBs "crashing" like that every play.

 

2 - Offense: much more efficient in the 2nd half. To anyone that doesn't think OHS was "gassed" in the 4th qtr, watch HHS's final drive. #10 for OHS was repeatedly laying on the ground deciding if he wanted to get back up and take some more of what HHS was dishing out. I am not sure if they passed the ball at all. In fact, it almost looked like the RBs were diving forward after 5-7 yds. to make sure they could methodically move down the field with the maximum # of plays / clock usage while still not jeopardizing converting 1st downs. They did not milk the play clock the full 25 seconds after in favor of keeping the tempo & pressure on OHS. Even on the TD, Hoge looked like he was almost "reluctant" to go ahead and score. The big boys up front were simply pushing the LOS downfield 3-4 yards before contact. Easy to get 7 yds. a pop with that kind of surge.

 

3 - Not sure how I feel about OHS crashing the C when in victory formation. As it turned out, HHS had to run a couple of plays to run out the clock, so probably a legit play but always looks suspect. Great leadership by SR Bunning (LT) to take JR Richardson © aside during a timeout and get him under control after he was crashed on the 1st 2 victory formation snaps. I am sure he was explaining the need to keep calm and do your job and not take the bait. Need guys like that in the huddle.

Here are a couple of other critical situations that certainly had effect in the first half:

 

1. OHS punts towards the HHS goal line. The OHS player fields the ball on or very near the 1. He carried the ball into the end zone either by momentum or just running. I'm no rules expert but the officials placed the ball inside the 1. He absolutely didn't stop out of the end zone. I assume it was the correct call if all the punting team has to do is "touch" the ball in play and not establish control while in play. Curious. HHS went on to punt in that possession turning the ball bsck to OHS in great field position.

2. With time winding down in the 2nd quarter, call it approximately 30 seconds, OHS gained about 8'yards on a first down play. The officials Stopped the clock allowing OHS needed seconds, maybe 5 or 6 eventually resulting in their last score of the first half.

 

I am not suggesting this the outcome was overly influenced by this but OHS was certainly the beneficiary of these 2 situations. If the ruling on point 1 is correct I will stand corrected. My final thought is HHS is and was the better team, under no circumstance do I believe OHS was 21 points better as was the result of the first half, but that HHS was better and proved in the second and final half!
