The white hat and boys were a tad slow to say the least setting the ball as they had trouble keeping up with the pace of the game.

They sure got the ball set quickly when Highlands was trying to run out the clock now didn't they? Really does not matter in the grand scheme of things, but the officiating was not very good last year and was even worse this year IMO. Putting a group of individuals together as a crew for the first time in the finals is not a good idea if you ask me.

Yes I heard them say that during the coin toss. There has to be a better way. The side official on the Highlands side had no problems throwing his flag, yet the man on the Owensboro side had his pretty much sewn into his pocket.

What!?!?!?! This guy's first game as the head referee was a state championship game!?!? Who in the world thinks it makes sense to have a guy cut his teeth on being the referee (not in his normal position) in the state championship game??? How can this possibly happen? There are not six qualified, experienced referees in the state of Ky to do the game???

 

The guy did look very unsure of himself on calling penalties and putting the ball in play...now I know why...

Look at this old picture form the 2011 State Championship game that I found. Boy did these 3 sure grow up!! They got to experience 4 State Title games....Impressive!

Sort of like a team kicking a on-sides kick can't advance the football and is spotted where it is recovered but a return team can advance. The front line on the return team should be dead where they receive it. If they want to start protecting kids from Targeting then this is a must. IMO! Way too many chances a kid gets blown up when he doesn't have a eye on the contact coming. You don't see many Front line fair catches in Football do you?

 

I believe he is referring to the fact that HS, NCAA and NFL all use different rule sets.

 

They did make changes to the kickoff rule over the past few years to prevent injury on onside kicks. Also in most cases with an onside the ball is kicked into the ground creating a bounce which would also prevent a fair catch.

 

I don't know what the deal is with the cadence stuff. I've noticed over the last few years we have at least one or two games a year where teams do this.

 

The officials don't have to set the ball at any certain pace. They can't even set it or chop it ready until the box is set.

This yr though Big Country might have only had them by maybe 10lbs...
