I watched the game but did not pay a whole lot of attention to how many guys for OHS went both ways. Does anyone know? I wonder if fatigue played a factor in the second half. OHS looked tired to me at times...

I also want to give a shout out as a very proud uncle to Mitchell Cain. Tough playing WR when you have a great one in number 6 in front of you but

 

When your number was called, you stepped up and made the plays. Awesome TD catch!!! Flying that HHS flag proudly in Claryville!!! Can't wait to watch again next year....

Congrats to Mitch for a very fine season. While in the string I would be remiss if I didn't also mention all of the first year starters and key players to Cain, New, Bunning, Miller, Richardson, Beal, Dressman, Lindeman,Welch, Doherty, and many returning starters such as Hoge, Ehrlage, Pangallo, Abner's and many more I'm sure I've missed. What a team effort disproving all the doubters (non HHS ) thinking and saying this was CCH's year. Moreover I am certain those same naysayers wrote HHS off down 21 at half last night. Quite a season and such an improbable come back win for their 23rd Kentucky state championship.

I don't think fatigue was a big factor in this game. Before the game I said Owensboro's offense was going to have to win this for them and it was true. Owensboro defense was gashed all year from the Hop-twn scrimmage on. Highlands made defensive adjustments at the half and Owensboro didn't counter those on offense. Ball game.

I thought fatigue was a huge factor. After the half the Highlands kids came out of the locker room with a strut that belied the fact that they were down 21. Owensboro looked like they were waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop, and as the half wore on, the two way players looked slower and slower. To hold them scoreless was impressive, but to keep them from getting close was just awesome. Owensboro just looked panicked in the second half, as evidenced by the desperation duck tossed up on the halfback option. The halftime adjustments were huge, but at the same time those were some tired pups.

From the looks on their faces up close, the expressions were either fatigue or "oh crap we P'd them off"

I just got through watching the game. These announcers were head and shoulders better than Ball and Ransdell. They were fair and accurate with the calling of the game and with the names of the players. They were very professional.

Ball and Company probably had the choice of games and when they saw Highlands and some of the names on the roster Ball's color guy just might have passed on it as perhaps he didn't want to stir up any old emotions...:thumb:

Ive read several posters state that only the HHS players

and fans not to panic. You apparently didn't read the update Thread. There were several HHS fans who thought HHS would lose. So no need to pat the HHS fans on the back as if they knew better and they had the game in hand. Just sayin

 

Now if some of you feel the need to continually boost your ego's, then go ahead. I just do t think you need to.

I had to walk away during the first half to collect my thoughts and as I stood in the endzone by myself a security guard walked up and struck up a conversation...

 

He told me not to worry, Highlands would win, he insisted on it. He told me Highlands had too many athletes and they also had too much experience and tradition then to lose to this team.

 

I agreed but I was also not real sure as I watched another Owensboro score just before half...Birds were now losing 42-21 and we had no answer for the way they were scoring.

 

He laughed out loud as he had been there before, told me Highlands coaches would make adjustments and also said Owensboro would not score in the second half, said Highlands was a machine and would not panic. He then told me good luck and that he had to get back to his station and before he walked away I asked him where he played football

 

He smiled and said he played for Bowling Green and shook my hand...Dude knew what he was talking about:thumb:

You see!!! Sometimes it takes an outsider to show the confidence in the team more than someone too close to the situation. There you go, that's 2 outsiders who both said HHS would win and why.

I thought it was an exceptionally intelligent play by Grayson Heck to slide to the ground after making the final interception. He had plenty of room to run and had a chance to score a touchdown in a State Championship game. Instead he made the team play and slide to the ground rather than risking the turnover.

The last Owensboro score had me rattled, but I figured there would be some halftime adjustments in the locker room, and some tired Devils in the second half. I stayed in my seat. I wanted to make sure I caught all of Tdyballgame's words of wisdom to the refs.:ylsuper:
